Picture of the Week #199 - 15 January - 29 January 2012

POTW # 199 15 January - 29 January 2012
Welcome to edition #199 of the Pentax Forums' Picture of the Week. Special thanks to xjjohnno for hosting the previous week and inviting me to host this week. Feel very privileged!

This edition covers photos from 15 January 2012 - 29 January 2012. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

Saw the moon, Venus and Neptune last night - no camera - so here are a couple from my last walk. Sometimes things need to be helped - the Coast Guard boats at English Bay, and A Ferrari repair shop!

A few from today. Looking down, low tide, and a great blue heron.

Here's a few more from this week. We're enjoying some very Springlike weather lately - these are just around the house & the neighborhood:

Pretty easy, with shots like yours; the silo reflected light is great, and
the wire is so clear - what lens?

Paul, another super set of shots; I especially like the tree shadows, and the leaf bokeh.

Thanks, Arn. Those leaves are just the tops of our hedges on a really sunny morning.

Tom, I thought we'd have to send out a search party for you, most unlike you to be posting so late in the week, neat collection of pics BTW, those silos make me think of our wheat growing areas.
Paul, I take it that those boats are moored in an estuary? I'm going by the slight hint of sediments in the water, lovely collection there and good to see spring is poking its head into your part of the world.
Today was Market day for me, SMC Takumar 50 f1.4 was the lens used today.

Okay, John. Those shots beautifully capture the trip to the market! You've convinced me to dig out my old 50/1.4 tomorrow.

Thanks for the Springlike views, Paul. We're having mild weather, but not that nice. I like the Sycamore or Plane seeds in the last one.

Thanks, both of those are with the D FA100 macro WR, I got the lens in September and really like it. I don't really do much macro, but I've found it very useful for a variety of scenes, I'll post a landscape from it below.

It's been a weird week, totally gloomy most of the week with rain, snow, and dark days. Just started clearing up when I was getting off work, I was hoping for mottled clouds, but it was clearing fast. We do grow some wheat in this area, but not nearly as much wheat as corn and soybeans.

I always enjoy your trips to the market, That first shot is a real cracker for me, I like the contrast of the old building full of character and style in total contrast to the modern giants behind it. But then it looks awfully well preserved. Is it a new building? We have a lot of that going on where they are starting to build new building in old styles, I like it. Great photo either way!

I stopped to shoot the barn below with the D FA100, that's when I saw the wire on the fence and got it to, This barn is about 7 or 8 miles from my house and I've shot it with every lens I have, something about it intrigues me, it's several humdred yards off the road, actually visible from three roads.

I posted a black and white version of this in the agriculture thread, this is from a different road, facing for towards the sun:

Tom, the market is preserved, those buildings date back to the late 1800s. The Queen Victoria Market is a bit of a local icon and very popular with the tourists and those of us who don't like enhancing the share values of the supermarkets. It's mainly family businesses who pride themselves on selling quality produce. Developers keep trying to get their hands on the place but it's covered by a caveat regarding its use as well as "green bans" from the construction unions who prefer seeing a people's market remain in the CBD.

Yes, I like it Tom - something about the foreground, the shape of the roof, and the hillside behind maybe?

That's actually just a woods, that's closer to the left making it look like a slight hill.

Very nice & interesting photos, xjjohnno. The sediment you see in the water is only mud . The marina is located on a man-made reservoir just a few minutes from Dallas-Ft Worth Int'l Airport. It's walking distance from my home, so it's one of my frequent-photo hangouts.
