POTW # 201 ! 29 January - 11 Feb 2012
Welcome to edition #201 of the Pentax Forums' Picture of the Week. Special thanks to Peter for hosting the previous week and inviting me to host the 201st edition of this series.

This edition covers photos from 29 January - 11 Feb 2012. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

thanks for hosting bluestringer! looks like everyone's rearing to go! that doesn't look right. roaring to go? no idea...

here's what i've been doing so far

k100d, sigma 18-200 megazoooom:

@155mm:

really impressed with sharpness here - the shiny beak and detail around the face and on the front chest feathers.

@53mm

@ 75mm

thought the nice bokeh on the people in the background gave it a nice touch.

and finally got the tripod out of its packaging after sitting in the spare room for a month (it umm needed to be "seasoned"? *snarf*)

these taken on the kx on live view with the tripod and my tamron 90mm macro 2.8 (manual version)

and yes, i know there's a bit of dust in that last pic. can't seem to find my blower atm i need to take it down to retouch but i like this photo too much not to share sooner rather than later

click on images for exif data

thanks cif. do you mean how to get rid of the dirt in post processing or off the camera itself?

on the PP side I tend to use the 'clone' tool in photoshop, which is like a little 'stamp' icon. you press 'alt' and the mouse on a spot that is very similar to what you have and then let go, and click on the dirt spot in the picture. i'm not sure i'm making sense now that i've reread what i've written actually.. this linky might be better --> linky

if you're talking on the camera you'll need a rubber blower. something like this --> linky

gotcha. I think some suggest getting a bigger/fatter blower. I just ebayed for the cheapest one to show you what they look like. i need to go and get my sensor cleaned. the dust on my k100d is driving me batty. i can only handle so much cloning i tells ya! i've misplaced my rubber blower and to be honest it wasn't doing much good as i think i have some really stubborn spots on the sensor. so it's either wet clean or take it to the shop. it's more expensive at the shop and will take around 3 weeks in there before it comes back to me, but atm i'm thinking i might just drop it off. still undecided atm.

Went on a bushwalk this evening in search of my POTD for Singles In..

I must say it's pretty hard to narrow it down to one pic a day. As if to say, gee, 'this' was my day.. *shakes head*

If nothing else it's teaching me what I need to know about my sigma. And I guess that was one of the main reasons I joined.

Anyway, here are some pictures at 1600 ISO on the k100d.

@93mm

@18mm (yes you see? I do go wide....)

And then for something completely different - this is probably one of my favourites today. it was completely overexposed when I shot it from the red light intersection. i decided to play around with it in photoshop - desaturate, threshold and then a trace outline. least i think that's what i did. gosh my memory's getting cagey already! anyway, i really liked the result

(shot at 30mm)

all taken on the k100d, sigma 18-200 megazoooom. click on images for exif data

noelcmn, we have here -11/-12C during the day and -14/-16C during the night. it's freezing cold
Cif- Give it to me any day-Really I'd prefer cold-logic says if you are cold you can make yourself warm but if you are hot, you need external sources to keep cool (like aircons etc) Jokingly, I considered aspplying for a job in Lapland, counting the reindeer. The advertisement said average temperature is -35degrees. Some would say i'm nuts-I reckom I am only thick skinned -therefore cold does not get through thick skin. By the way, you are upping the envy stakes more and more with your snow shots. And is that your wife, kid, friend that keeps popping up in your photos. She is very photogenic.
"Lovely shots, noelcmn. What lens were you using?" Arn- Sigma 170-500 + x2 converter.

Wolfiegirl-that a stunning shot of the Rooster. And we are ROARRRRING TO GO! African style ROAR!

noelcmn, she' my girlfriend, thanks for the compliment
We had last week -32C and in the same day on the South Pole was -30C (I know it's summer at the south pole, but still ...)

and now some more pics to help cool down your home/office

Sorry for the dust spots on the pics. I just improvised a blower from a syringe with the needle cut down. it seems to be ok now.(still looks ugly at f22). I'll see if I got rid of dust

Ok Cif- cooling down a bit here . South Pole is the place to be for a holiday! Have a photo of a friend (now deceased regrettably) who visited there, and played rugby in the snow. mmmm My kind of friend-except for the rugby part
BTW- your b/w conversions work very well! I like.

Wolfiegirl-that last pic is very neat, very interesting too. So different, and yet, one can recognise some familiar things there. I like too. And seeing I do not have Photoshop (only lightroom) I can't duplicate-the idea anyway.

a bit of a mismatch from me this week and some last week

cif

one of your pics is of snow and grass but there is something to the right of centre. I thought it was a bird at first glance, flying through the shot. now i'm not so sure. what is it?

It is a bird it is Phalacrocorax carbo - great cormorant. Very unusual to see this bird in my side of the country.
