POTW #208 25 March through 7 April 2012
Posted By: ramseybuckeye, 03-31-2012, 08:37 PM

Welcome to edition #208 of the Pentax Forums' Picture of the Week. Thanks to cif for an excellent job of hosting edition #207.

This edition covers photos from 25 March - 07 April 2012. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time. So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:
  1. No theme, just post your favorite pix.
  2. Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
  3. Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's Film, P&S, Mirrorless, or DSLR.
  4. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.
  5. The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.
Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

Love the amaryllis, cif. I noticed today that ours shot up over the weekend. No blooms yet, but soon.

Okay, I'm trying to get back in the swing here. This makes 2 out of 3 weeks, so I'm headed in the right direction. These are from a birthday party at a pool venue, and a trip back home through some lovely rolling Georgia countryside.
Good series, that water looks like glass! But I agree that the canola field is really nice, as are the two ahead of it.

Great stuff here.
Here's a shot from a couple of days ago, taken with the Lentar 135mm M42 lens and one ring of a Vivitar extension tube set about 28-30mm extension. Lizard looking back at me. A bit of sharpening, no other editing except crop and resize. Very large crop, 3584x2688 which resizes to 1024x768 nicely for web viewing.
Pete, where do you find all of these great critters, you nailed the focus on the lizard!

A really nice variety of looks from the same flower, I think it is. Very creative and well done!

David -My Lentar has the same dual aperture ring setup, works fine. Since I can't see well at smaller apertures if I need a quick shot I'm taking my chances, but usually I have time to deal with it. I've been really pleased with all of my M42 lenses, the Lentar 90-230 has the same dual aperture ring setup so I was already familiar with it when I got the 135.

The lizard was no problem, I had plenty time and shot it at f8. The aperture stop ring is pretty easy to move by turning other one, so I have to be careful but usually it gives me no trouble, it's easy to feel the stop. The lizard had been trying to escape and was sitting there apparently wondering where to go next. Facing away from me I almost decided not to try for a shot, then did it anyway. Glad I did, this was the best of about a half dozen keepers. Unfortunately I didn't have room to crop out the part of a leaf on the left, unless I went with a smaller crop. Didn't want to do that since this version looked so good, so I left it there. I did save a different crop, which makes it a closer view but I like this one better.

Thanks. I was pleased with the focus on that one.

Where do I find them? Just about everywhere I look...but then I go out looking for them too. The lizard was in the back yard, found while I was cutting and burning brush. So I grabbed the camera. It was time for a break anyway...yeah any old excuse...

Anyway most of the time I go out looking for critters. City parks, wildlife management areas, around the yard, along the roads, pull over under any river bridge, state parks, around a lake bank, national forest, even the bayou going through a local college offers up photo ops. I stop and check out anything I see that looks like it might have possibilities. A few months back it took me about 9 hours to make the 5 hour drive here, between yard sales and spotting hawks and such on the road...I've even gotten a few shots with a point and shoot out the window at 65 MPH while on the road.

This is a Rufous-Sided Towhee, not a great shot at all, but the first one of these I've ever seen:

Also my first photo of a Hairy Woodpecker:

Spring is definitely here, the second butterfly in the thread:

I think it will take more than one cup of tea or coffee to get through all of that! Nice photo!

Picture of the Week POTW #208 25 March through 7 April 2012

My favorite pic from last week. I received an Alien Bee 800, the stand and a large softbox. I also received a seamless white paper roll from Adorama. Along with a DIY flash ring (that I did not used.)

The reason for choosing this picture is, well, I thought I needed a new camera, but my K20D and the stock lens were just enough to produce amazing detail.. (Yes, the stock lens!)

ISO 100, f/11, 1/180, 55mm
AB800 at 1/4 power, model right through softbox

Methinks danielo and derelict each had very nice subjects to shoot.

Great shots! Are these images taken at Rosses Point? You can almost see the place where I spent my childhood vacations in these pics (my grandparents have a house in Drumcliff at the Ben Bulben).

Yes they are David. Drumcliff is "just up the road" as they say here

It was my first time there. Very peaceful and tranquil. The sun was a bonus
