POTW #208 25 March through 7 April 2012
Posted By: ramseybuckeye, 03-31-2012, 08:37 PM

Welcome to edition #208 of the Pentax Forums' Picture of the Week. Thanks to cif for an excellent job of hosting edition #207.

This edition covers photos from 25 March - 07 April 2012. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time. So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:
  1. No theme, just post your favorite pix.
  2. Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
  3. Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's Film, P&S, Mirrorless, or DSLR.
  4. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.
  5. The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.
Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

Thanks for hosting Tom, and some good-looking shots from you & cif to start things off. Here's a few from our picnic last night by the lake with a K100D & M35-70 2.8-3.5. In spite of its weight & bulk, I really love this lens. A couple of these were accidently shot at 800 iso (x-posted from m-club)

Thanks for hosting, Tom!
This Friday my M42 adapter finally arrived. So I spent the weekend testing my new Helios 44-2 while I enjoyed the wonderful spring weather. This lens is kind of a mixed bag. First of all, it's true what they say about it's sharpness and bokeh. On the hand this lens is insanely prone to flare as you can see in the second picture. You just slightly point your camera towards the sun, contrast goes down and you end up with flare. Also metering is very cumbersome. At apertures wider than f/4 the lens produces underexposed images, at smaller apertures the split screen gets dark and I end up with overexposed images. Bottomline, this is definitly a lens with character. I think this lens can shine in some situation but it propably won't become my favorite walk around lens.

cif, great series to start us off this week, I have to say the pic of the window with someone looking out is kind of creepy, I like it, like the squirrel too, big ears compared to our squirrels.

Paul, looks like a good time at your picnic. Looks too nice outside to sit and read though!

David, You'll have fun with that M42 adapter, opens up a lot of possibilities. Those photos certainly are sharp. Sounds like it will be a niche lens. I've never tried a Helios, I've had several other M42s, but usually end up selling them when I haven't used them that much, but it's always fun.

Okay, I'm trying to get back in the swing here. This makes 2 out of 3 weeks, so I'm headed in the right direction. These are from a birthday party at a pool venue, and a trip back home through some lovely rolling Georgia countryside.

I love that first shot pentaximus, a simple scene but so effective! And all that canola makes me long for summer. We won't see fields like that for another three months here!

Great stuff here.

Cif I love the face in the window and the old room shot above it, both are really nice and I think B&W was a great choice for those.

David I think the M42 might grow on you, I love mine. I see the same thing, smaller apertures make the view through the camera darker. Sometimes I have to focus at f4 then switch to f8 or f11 to take the shot because it's too dark to see. I'd try to find a hood for that lens, it does a nice job. Just realized, my shot below is with one of my M42 lenses. That's the way I had to get this shot, focus at f4 or so and reset before shooting.

Here's a shot from a couple of days ago, taken with the Lentar 135mm M42 lens and one ring of a Vivitar extension tube set about 28-30mm extension. Lizard looking back at me. A bit of sharpening, no other editing except crop and resize. Very large crop, 3584x2688 which resizes to 1024x768 nicely for web viewing.

This lens is definitly fun to use. I'm just figuring out how it works. My lens actually has two aperture rings: with the first one you set the f stop and with the second you open and close the aperture. So it's pretty easy to focus wide open and then close the aperture.

Your lizard image is amazing. Great composition and the focus is where it should be. Nice job! The Lentar seems to have a very pleasing bokeh.

Thanks, Joe! And truth be told, we're probably about a month ahead of schedule due to the warmth of our late winter. Maybe you'll see fields like that in only two months or so.
