POTW #209, 31 March through 14 April 2012
Posted By: paulh, 04-07-2012, 08:27 PM

Welcome to edition #209 of the Pentax Forums' Picture of the Week. Thanks to ramseybuckeye for a nice job of hosting edition #208.

This edition covers photos from 31 March - 14 April 2012. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time. So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:
  1. No theme, just post your favorite pix.
  2. Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
  3. Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's Film, P&S, Mirrorless, or DSLR.
  4. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.
  5. The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.
Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

Thanks for hosting, paulh!

Didn't have much time this weekend for taking photos. One night I played around a little bit with my new Helios 44-2 and took this image of a friend:

Thanks Tom. Yep, they're pretty amazing summer migrant to our shores. I am still to get a pic of it with its grub (includes a lotot other insects besides bees) I have some, but too far away even for my 500mm + x2 converter. I did get some images of its cousin, also a summer migrant, the BEAUTIFUL Carmine Bee Eater. This one caught a nice fat Locust, and as with the European Bee Eater, this one breaks of all the legs and other dangling parts, sometimes tossing it in the air, sometimes beating it against the tree, leaving only the juiciest parts which is then gulped down. Here are some pics. Forgive me Paul, overstepping the 6 or so images usually asked (and hope your bucket list gets fulfilled sometime) Already gone beyond that, and now adding some more. Blame it on Tom, or otherwise curb my enthusiasm for the Kruger Park.

Oldschool, that's some fab photos you posted here. And my reaction to that carrot hairdo- NOW I HAVE SEEN IT ALL. Here in South Africa we do it with Watermelons. I recall my son when he was much younger, at school, they were requested to bring "Spring Hats" to celebrate the arrival of spring on the 1st Sept. Well nothing we as parents conjured up compares to these hats. mmm... maybe I should give it a try-I should look good, donkey that I am

Have a great week everyone.

Well now Old school, seems your 5th Ave Easter Bonnet Parade made some international news- well perhaps just here is SA. Saw this image and script in oneof our local newspapers this morning, and recognised it immediately. You are not a journalist are you? If not, sell your pic to Reuters, its better. Sorry about the quality of the pic-scanned and unable to do a NR at the office where I am at the moment. But thought you might be interested in how small our world is getting by the day

Taken through dirty windshield glare. I was just glad to get the camera up in time to get this shot. You can't tell from this view, but he is a quadruple amputee.

Cross post from photo critique section. First real trip with K-5 I bought from a couple months ago and I'm experimenting with HDR processing.

Thanks for your contributions, everyone - I'm really enjoying these

Here's a few shots crossposted from other threads - experimenting with the 'macro' settings on a Quantaray 28-90:

I'll take the blame to see your photos! What a great series on a beautiful bird!

A few from today's first K-5 familiarity session. It's going to take a while to comprehend this owner's manual!

I've only really been shooting to document the work I've been doing in another hobby. I'm restoring an RCA 4V-F464 Console stereo from 1964. It's my first foray into restoring tube-based gear. So here's a couple of the RC-1211A Tuner/Preamp and RS-177J Amplifier.

The rest of the shots can be found here: RCA 4VF464
