POTW #210, 7 April through 21 April 2012
Posted By: Oldschool, 04-15-2012, 06:23 AM

Welcome to edition #210 of the Pentax Forums' Picture of the Week. Thanks to paulh for a nice job of hosting edition #209.

This edition covers photos from 7 April - 21 April 2012. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time. So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

No theme, just post your favorite pix.
Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's Film, P&S, Mirrorless, or DSLR.
Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.
The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

Great start and thanks to everyone who posted.
SpecialK - I really like the silhouette in the window
paulh - It looks like spring is in full bloom
ruggiex - they are colorful. Its a shame all the umbrellas weren't open.
nosliwmit - great job with the manual focus. You have more patience than I do
pentaximus - I love the young boy(?) on the tire swing
jqjones- Beatiful image. I'm not normally a fan of HDR, but well done.
lukulele - more spring images, keep them coming
jmschrei - looks like a great little museum. Well exposed indoor shots.
cif - nicely done. It can be tough exposing correctly with a candle
clou - outstanding captures. I haven't been to Munich in many years, is that station new?
todd - great shots. It looks like they were having lots of fun
xjjohnno - that first character looks pretty weird.

Blue Wing Teal flying. Long distance shot, not great but this is about as close as they usually let me get unless I'm in a blind...this time it was a short trip and I was just standing near the water.

Very small spider. This guy let me get a lot closer...within 6 inches actually, since I was using my binocular lens macro rig. The thick web part is about the size of a pencil eraser.

Tiny flower. THe flower is a tiny bit bigger than the spider above, but not much. Barely bigger than a pencil eraser. Again using the binocular lens rig but this time with a 2x teleconverter attached. Not sure if I like it or not, it seems to be a bit softer than without the TC and I like the sharp detail I usually get with the binocular lens rig..

That shot will probably wind up in the Tiny Flowers thread too...

Ducks shot with Vivitar 200mm M42 lens, macros shot with Pentax A 50mm f1.4 set at f8 (flower) and f11 with flash (spider)

Thanks Oldschool for hosting. Our front yard neighbors making sure I don't get too close to their nest in a large holly bush.

Thanks for hosting, Oldschool!
One of the neighbors:

Spotted this tiny guy hanging out in the woods, probably about a centimeter long, I positioned the camera to show him off with the little wildflower as a backdrop:

Thanks for hosting Oldschool, and some really nice pics coming through. S contribution from me. Been looking at the changing of the season here in Johannesburg, trying to capture the beautiful Autumn season and colours

Last week's public holiday (easter Monday) I took the opportunity to visit a game/nature reserve within the precincts of Pretoria, about 60km away called Rietvlei Nature Reserve. Basically its centered around a Dam, which feeds the Pretoria municipality and households. Have known of the reserve for years, but never got to visit, and decided it's time. Had fabulous time there, including a visit to their Lion enclosure, where you could stand on a platform and watch the lions from a vantage point. A lot of other wildlife too, plus fishing and to my joy and satisfaction, no motorised boats allowed. I am planning another visit there soon. For those interested, Google Rietvlei for an over view. Here are some of the pics.

Suricate, unusual to find it here, as it inhabits dry arid country,

Yellow Billed Duck

Last butnot least, this beautiful locust was being harrassed by someone's cat, I rescued it in the hope to get some pics and portraits. I did, but not enough, before it enjoyed its freedom from a doomed death.

Albeit a bit late, have a great week everyone.

It's been forever since I participated in a POTW thread. Like other Albertans we are awaiting spring - there were a few signs then Mother Nature came back in a flury of winter. Here are few from late last week on one of those not so bad days. A few 'fowl' shots and a Robin and woodpecker.

Open Water Yeah

Damn back to the 'ice age'

What the heck ? Where are all the worms ???

Least the wood is not frozen,

Home, Sweet Home

I ventured into our yard for these photos. The K100D was handheld. A photo of grape hyacinth, similar to one of these images, is in Project 52's thread at this site: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/weekly-photo-challenges/182601-project-52...rspective.html

Processing was in some or all of the following: iPhoto; Nik Software's Viveza 2.0; Nik Software's Color Efex Pro 4.0.

Comments and suggestions — by PM or e-mail if you wish — are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Thanks also to all who post photos at POTW and elsewhere at Pentaxforums.com.

Best wishes,
Stu

Great variety here nice to see all the spring / fall colors depending on what part of the world you are in. A few more 'fowl' shots and a couple of the red winged black bird. These guys are relatively small and I always find it a hard exposure. They come back every spring and leave every fall. They are noisy little buggers now all looking for mates.

Taking a swim in what little water is available (it's almost all open now)

Now that's a cold drink.

Our little friend the red winged black bird. I am told they can control how much red they show.

Thanks again to everyone who's posted pictures.

Bruce - very interesting sculpture, I like the boy fishing too
Paleo Pete - scary spider, nice capture
Frosty Jack - I like the B&W conversion. What tool do you use?
Lukulele - Thanks for the bird shots
Ramseybuckey - that squirrel has his eye on you, nice flower shot too
noelcmm- I'm so caught up in spring here, I forget it's fall down south. Nice colors.
Dave - I'm glad spring is arriving up north
jqjones - great shot. How long was the exposure?
smf - the K100D really does capture colors well, your processing is very well done.
