POTW #219 - 10 June 2012-24 June 2012 Report

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to the Picture of the Week #219. Thanks to Noelcmn ()for hosting last week. Let's see plenty of great postings over the next week.

This week covers 10th June to 24th June, 2012.

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Welcome to another edition of POTW. Last weeks POTW was fabulous, a stunning array of shots from around our ever-decreasing small world. Lets make this one even better- the POTW that is.
Have not had much of a chance to do some clicking, but i'll start with these two-
Icicles on a crack on my car windscreen-heralding the arrival of official winter season-a cold snap of a few days.

Hi Noel,

Thanks for hanging in for a second round. I processed a few more shots from yesterday's walk. I frequently convert my landscapes to B&W but here a couple that I processed in colour. I especially liked the touches of red mud in the delta. At this time of year they keep the water levels low on the reservoir so birds and waterfowl can nest.

It's getting really warm so this weekend the beach was the obvious choice. In a vintage nostalgic mood

Still getting to grips with my Pentax-A 1.7. Its a bit tricky to focus on moving kids at the wide end though. Managed to get a couple of shots though :-)

Thanks for hosting again :-) Nice opening everyone!

I've been shooting with the 18-135mm WR for about a week now. I am usually a prime kinda guy but the versatility and WR got me out of the "cave" LOL!

I've nearly bought that lens several times. Maybe when I get a WR body I'll consider that lens a "must"!

These two are all I have to offer at the moment. I'm identifying this as a Southeastern Bush's Katydid nymph. Other suggestions are welcome.

And here's a BW treatment of a different Magnolia blossom.

Thanks for hosting again, Noel.

Haven't been around much the past couple of weeks so I thought I'd drop a shot or three in

The usual birds and such...

Immature robin

Hummingbird

Hawk

Close up head shot of a dragonfly

Anhinga

All but the dragonfly taken with Vivitar M42 200mm. Dragonfly was the SMC Pentax A 50mm and extension tube made from gutted teleconverter. 26mm length.

@Paleo Pete, how the heck did you get that dragonfly with a 50mm without scarring it away?

Very carefully.

It landed right in front of me, I took it very slow and easy and finally got within inches and grabbed a few shots. I'm not sure if it was that one, several were buzzing around me, but one hopped onto my finger for a couple of seconds then flew away. Been about a year since I got shots of one on my finger...

couple more while I'm around for a bit

Bee. This guy is not easy to shoot, it moves faster and more than a honey bee. I'd get one or two shots every half dozen flowers. 135mm Lentar M42 and extension tubes. (that put me about a foot away) Natural sunlight, no flash, f8. Taken same day as Dragonfly and Anhinga above.

Swallowtail with the 50mm A series, no extension tubes.

50mm and makeshift extension tube again. Natural sunlight, no flash probably f8 but I've slept since then.

Wow guys and ladies, the Macro shots around here are rocking at an all time high. Thanks for posting.
Jmshrei-Agree with you on that red mud, adds a colourful touch.
Tsakatsaka-I'm not speaking to you-what with you posting the opposite of my frozen windscreen. Not fair
Mde1970-Oh I love that toddler "ïncognito" shot so much. Its fabulous.
SpecialK-once again some great images from you. I especialy like that Church image-peaceful and quiet, but a great contrast suggested by that runner.
Zorglub, Wow, I like your stitching skills. That first is very very nice. Those clouds just add an extra dimension.
Ruggiex- I'm thirsty
And then the Macro dominance arrived-first with Pentaximus-I like Mr Magnolia
Paleo Pete-great to have you around with your usual high standards. I was going to say that you must have drugged that dragonfly, but now that you've explained it, I reckon you've got some pheromones that your using. Dragonfly on the finger-the stuff of dreams sir. BTW-hang around here a bit more.
Sergiu-wonderful, especially that bee. Crisp shots from you!
Waiting with bated breath for my K5 to arrive, maybe tomorrow or Friday, hopefully I'll have studied it enough to start shooting for World Pentax Day on Saturday. BTW got it for a fantastic price of $638.00 including freight from the UK. Hope I have'nt been done in, but at that price (almost half) it was irresistable. Took the plunge and now the pocket is crying, not to mention the bank. Ah well-pentax fever is pretty awful to resist.
