POTW #221 - 24 June 2012 - 8 July 2012 Report

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to the Picture of the Week #221. Thanks to sergiu () for hosting last week. Let's see plenty of great postings over the next week.

This week covers 24th June to 8th July, 2012.

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

Thanks for hosting this week again, sergui.

This weekend I went on an other night outing, but I had to end the session early because I lost a lot of blood to the mosquitos and feared that it might start to rain. Nevertheless I managed to capture this two images:

Thanks for hanging in for another round sergui.
Awesome shots there David, a great way to start.

Today is Canada Day and I went downtown to take in some of the activities (all taken with the DA 35 ltd):

And my favourite booth. With so much controversy over religious headgear it was great to see the Sikh community inviting everyone to have a little fun in a turban.

Joe, thanks for taking us along on the holiday, the whole turban thing is hilariously cool.

Thanks for hosting sergui! I'm on vacation this week, we're going to Tennessee in a couple of daysa, but today I went to downtown Lima to shoot building in the harsh sun.

This is on the back of a building that was a bank many years ago:

Thanks for hosting, sergiu! Here's a sampler from last week.

This machine pulled up next to me at the gas station.

A dog named Goober waiting patiently.

Taking advantage of a laminate floor.

This flickr caption is an understatement.

This shutter speed is 1/250 of a second, and that's about how long these birds stay still.

And, sadly, a funeral. These are the two granddaughters of the deceased. Sorry to end on a downer.

Many thanks for hosting again, Sergiu. Here are a few of mine over the past week, in between the thunderstorms here. All taken with my K-01 and DA 40mm or 21mm lenses.

I am using the DA 35 ltd daily for the single in July challenge. It is a great summer lens.

Sergiu, hosting for a second time-Thanks so much. What a lovely collection we have here. Mecrox, I am interested to know that that first shot of yours is? Its very interesting, looks like lace with something colourful underneath. SpecialK, she adorable. Like that Bridge shot too. Pentaximus- that dog shots is super-reminds me of my boss's dog-watching all the time. David, That's that lens again? Awesome shots, especially that first one.
An eclectic collection from me-had a quiet week, so I had ample opportunity to take some shots. Over the weekend visited my favoured Botanical Gardens as well as Rietvlei Nature Reserve in Pretoria.
Botanical Gardens- Aloes are in Bloom

The moon was begging to be captured-unusually bright in the east with the sun setting in the west

Rietvlei treated me to a display of duelling Rhino- at Dusk. What a tremendous sighting, and I am sorry I did not capture it better, but I was rather nervous, as I still had to get past them to get to the gate before closing time. I definitely do no want to interfere with duelling Rhino

And this Comorant in the distance made for quite a nice silhouette.

This from a visit to a friend that lives on a mine compound. Arid with severe water restrictions, and this plant still thrives

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Yeah, it's that lens again ;-) I'm really happy with the DA 15 mm. At the moment I basically use only two lenses: this one and the F 28 mm.

I like your Rhino pic very much - so beautiful colors!
