POTW #233 Sep. 15 - Sept. 29
Posted By: mecrox, 09-23-2012, 03:22 AM

Welcome to the Picture of the Week #233. Many thanks to mecrox for hosting the previous week. Let's see plenty of great postings over the next week.

This week covers 15th September to 29th September, 2012.

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

Swan with the Sun at It's Back

I shot this looking north with the sun rising against the swan's back.

The pictures are flooding in this week!

I really like the colour and out-and-about feel of your first one, xjjohnno, a pretty amazing entrance that one, and the play of the light on that rose ...

Your first picture is incredible, SpecialK, it's kind of Batman goes Steampunk. Love things like that. A house in this town has a huge fibreglass great white shark plunging through the roof. It's now a landmark. And those are lovely landscapes. I've never been to the West Coast (?) but someday I would like to. And then glennbp's swan captured against the light in full battle mode and finally Runegutt123's Where did the summer go? which is just so delicate and beautifully toned, something of a knock-out picture for me as the same colours are beginning to come out here now, a few weeks later than Norway. Wow!

These are a couple from me with my K5 and DA* 16-50mm.

Autumn on my mind, too, I guess, though likely not on the mind in the heat of Australia to judge from wolfiegirl's roos and cheeky lizard.

Mecrox, thanks for hosting again. Glad its flooding beautiful images here. I'd better contribute to the flooding. Visited a friend last week and he had these in his garden.

@ glennbp - love that swan!

@ noelcmn - quite dramatic lighting you got there!

went to floriade this afternoon just around closing time - 4-5pm. rushed through it a bit and didn't get to really spend as much time as i'd like canvassing for shots. floriade is an annual flower show in canberra. i might see if i can go back again tomorrow and maybe bring some different lenses for fun.

in the meantime, despite the rush i think i managed to get a few keepers.

these all taken on the kx, tamron 90mm macro at around f11.

Keepers allright, especially like tthat last one. A riot of colour is the right expression I believe!

That dramatic light I hoped to have caught it better- Sunset, with the setting sun bright on the buildings, and dark cloud above. A beautiful moment actually!

Here are a few more from about that time. Our imposing Civic Centre

Thanks noelcmn

I have to go back into town again today and I'm hoping to get a chance to go in again and get some more shots. I didn't get half as many keepers as I'd like. It'll probably depend on how I feel after I get all my errands done.

I love that you caught a pic of the duck on the sandstone pillar!

mecrox, you're doing a great job with this POTW, coaxing out some really good images.

I went downtown tonight to see a scattered photo display, they were displayed in the windows of several businesses. This is a self portrait, my reflection taking a photo of my photo, pretty corny!:

Okay, it's been too long (a month or so) since I joined in a POTW. Two surgeries for my stepdad (including a quadruple bypass) and life suddenly becomes a tad too busy for much shooting. I have been monitoring things here and enjoying everyone's work as usual. I've even managed to make a few contributions to the Alphabet Race and I Spy threads in the meanwhile.

Anyway, all is well now, so how 'bout a few pics???

All shot with DAL 55-300 and K-x:

Thanks for letting me play!

Lots more activity, the pictures are coming in all week. A darn good showing from Pentaxians this week, I think.

Nice to see the Bellagio really exists (I've only seen the movie), Oldschool, and that is an awesome dam. You get some idea of how vast it is just looking at its depth.

I really like the colours in your shots, noelcmn, particularly the last one in the first post and the first one in the last post which are brooding and dramatic, especially with the perspectives you have chosen. Is that goose(?) real or a statue? I guess a statue might be a little odd but when I was in France over the summer I saw a similar arrangement featuring a giant rabbit. I was told it was very French but let's not go there. It's very well spotted either way. The weather here changes all the time but we don't have these strong bronze colours against dark stormy skies.

More great and springful captures from wolfiegirl, my own fave is the second one with the flowers (tulips?) caught just so in the light.

I think we may have the same approach to out-and-about clothing, ramseybuckeye. I like the picture of Kewpee, very atmospheric, we just don't have local places like this here, or rather we do but they are cafes or pubs rather than diners and hamburger places.

And those are really sharp captures, pentaximus. It's always a surprise when one sees great shots like this taken with the 55-300mm because the results suggest a $$$ premium lens. I don't have it but it's clearly a good 'un. Anyway, I hope they all enjoyed the game.

My K20D and DA*16-50 has been my faithful backpacking kit for the past few years. Here's one of my all time backpacking trips-- it's from the amazing Desolation Wilderness in California.

I got an FA 100-300mm F4.7-5.8 in the mail today, but didn't get a chance to try it out before it was starting to get dark. 1/400, f8.), ISO 6400, cropped quite a bit, fill added or it would have been nearly a silhouette.
