242 November 25 to Dec 9

"POTW #242 November 25 - December 9" Welcome to the Picture of the Week #242.

This week covers 25 Nov - 9 Dec That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time. There are just so many splendid photos out there so let's see you post them to this POW 242

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

Thanks for hosting again, arnold. I'm really enjoying the variety of great photos from all over the world. We're still waiting for Winter to show up here - very nice weather, with an occasional cool front. In fact, we set a record hi temp here Sunday - 83F. No complaints, but we could sure use some of that surplus rain that Nick, noel, & mecrox are getting. A couple quick shots for now -
First two are spectacular.......and somehow in stark contrast to the peacefully paddling duck on the bottom one. Gotta love it // Nick

Thanks Nick - I guess I wasn't thinking in terms of a theme! In spite of our nice weather, I'd rather be where you are - I've always had a fascination with the history of the area - Naples, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius - wow. I've never been, but have read up on it, and spoken with others about their experiences there. Hoping to see some stellar shots from you one of these days

Thanks for herding us this week Arnold. A few more abandoned architecture subjects from our county.

You really should get your roof fixed
Good shots of the old buildings. Looks like they were originally shakes but then later covered with iron.

Hi Nick-I lived and worked in Naples for 3 years between 1992-95. HATED IT! I found Naples dirty, stinky, rude and impossible to navigate. Having said that, the food is out of this world and the history and photographic opportunities are endless. Five minutes outside Naples in virtually any direction is a whole new world; the Amalfi coast, Pompeii, the islands of Capri and Ischia, well you get the idea. If you have a chance to take the jet ferry to Capri and bring lots of SD cards and batteries. One could take 1000 pics in a day!
Have a great time and post some photos when you get the chance.

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and I am trying to improve my photography skills by taking more photos and getting more input on them. That's why I am doing the Single lens photo every day challenge. I am pretty pleased with my photos from yesterday and today so I might as well post them here.

I shot this first one at f13 for 24sec. The room was totally dark and I used a flashlight to light the scene.

This one was shot this morning

A high ISO night shot from this past Thursday in Saratoga. Some local young dancers doing a performance in a shop window downtown.

Thanks for hosting again Arnold. This edition is already off to a spectacular start. I wanted to share a few festive fish-eye shots from my Single in December efforts with the DA 10-17.

I thought Johannesburg and Pretoria had the best climate in the world. I really miss the smell of the earth after a storm passes. And that steam engine surely can't be in service still? A special collectors weekend run perhaps?
When did you live here? And yes, we do have the best climate in the world, except we did not factor in global warming and climate changes These rains are not the familiar-to-you thunder storms that are over half an hour later-more like 4 days continuous rains.
First time that I saw this train and was lucky to get a few shots. It's name is Germiston, so I guess you may be right, a special weekend run for nostalgia. Will keep a lookout for it again this weekend.

1941 to 1961, but that was another world back then. One could travel the southern half of the continent without concerns of security. Went to Pretoria Boys' High.

Ok, Legger man! It was definitely another world then. Pretoria Boys. Het jy Rugby gespeel? (did you play rugby for the school). very interesting Arnold.

On another note, welcome Absolut239. I like your shots, though I should guess that the lens you are using does not allow for a wider framed image. I would have liked to see that spiral complete in the capture. Beautiful colours on that first shot. Hope to see more of you on POTW and elsewhere on the PF.

Thank you, I appreciate the welcome and the comments.
Yeah, I was a little limited in the framing because I chose to shoot primarily with the FA 50mm 1.4 this month.

Stellar will be harder than ever with the rain totally washing down and the cops stopping to tell you please hide the camera for you´re own safety. Don´t think I´ve ever been closer to anarchy than here. Sad. Anyway, intended to tick off the stops you listed today, now we´ll see about tomorrow and what weather it brings. // Nick

How odd. My wife went to Germiston High. // Nick
