243 Dec 2 to Dec 16

"POTW #243 December 2 - December 16" Welcome to the Picture of the Week #243.

That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time. There are just so many splendid photos out there so let's see you post them to this POW 243

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

I'm gonna maintain that these South Africans are becoming a pandemic all over this forum-they're now even including biltong. Now, I think, would be a good time to market another South African cultural delicacy-MOPANE WORMS. Any takers out there. Comes in two forms- Dried or uncooked and juicy, (wet, hairy and protein rich I am told, which will tell you that I have not tasted it in its uncooked form. Have had a tiny tiny bit of the dried version-many moons ago when I was still young and ridiculous. To be served with copious amounts of tomato relish and the like). Uncanned at the moment, but arrangements can be made for shipping.
Well, perhaps I should opt for CHAKALAKA?
My brother-in-law has proved his manhood by eating one, I myself has to date not and frankly donīt really see importing to Scandinavia as a great business opportunity. Sorrry ;-)
For the sake of diving deeper into the subject though, hereīs a picture of a Mophane tree. (Was to be a picture of a Rednecked Falcon in a Mophane tree but got the focus wrong so now itīs a Mophane tree with a Falcon in it.)

Is there a light in it? And did she keep the fan? (just fishing for ideas you know) Not the first biltong making machine I have come across in Europe, but certainly the smallest, and most innovative. How long does it take, and how much can you make? (more fishing going on here).
No fan being used but a small spotlight fitted. She starts off with about a kilo and a half of fresh meat and ends up with about a third of that when dried. Takes aprox a week and stinks like hell the first two days. Is a fair bit of work involved and not especially cheap either, but tastes fabulous // Nick

Yum Yum, I buy biltong at the local butcher here. Actually this is the old building. He has moved around the corner now.

Thanks for hosting arnold! I'm loving all these shots I'm seeing here, I guess it's my turn. Nothing as exciting or exotic as protein-packed worms, though . Took a short hike down to the lake the other night to check out the boathouses there. I had some nice light as the sun was setting.
I had to do a fair bit of PP on this one to deal with the glare -
Love how the sun seems to shine through the leaves there. Makes emī look so delicate // Nick

Very nice with the light in the leaves. Coincidentally I posted this elsewhere on the Forum, and it's as if we both were shooting for the same thing. Spotmatic F 50mm 1.4 No PP at all.

Arnold,

I just read up a bit on Spotmatic. Since you quote using it quite frequently I felt compelled to fill my gap of general ignorence. Am I correct in assuming youīre shooting with 1960īs Pentax Spotmatic? or is there a more to date versions of it? // Nick

Nice shot, Arnold. I would love to shoot more with my Spotmatic, but it's got the sticky-shutter syndrome at the moment Looks like CLA time & will probably send to Eric next year. Nick, my Spottie is an SPII, a later model - my copy is from 1971. My only lens for it is the SMC Tak 55/1.8, which I like a lot!

That is correct. Most of my shots are with sixties cameras, such as the SV Pentax which is pre Spotmatic, but beautifully made. It has no light meter built in. The most modern Spotmatic I use is the "F" which has open metering. (I don't have to close the aperture to get the correct reading). I used to turn my nose up at screw mount Pentax models when I bought my MX in 1976. Later, I began to appreciate their beautiful construction. The lenses are of superb feel, and will last far longer than the plastic wonders that followed. If you can understand why wine tastes better out of a crystal glass than a plastic one, you will understand the pleasuer of holding a Tacumar lens.
Along those lines, this picture was taken by my 1951 rangefinder Retinette, with a simple 3 element f4.5 German lens, not long ago. I love the quality of these early cameras

Thanks for Hosting Arnold.

I tried to get the meteor shower tonight, I only got one shot with a meteor showing. With any luck I'll try again tomorrow night, if it's not clouded over.

a few more from my evening at the boathouses. We haven't had much rain, so the lake level is pretty low right now.

Many thanks for hosting again, arnold. Love all the shots this week, especially ones with sunshine in them! There's been a cold snap here called "The Beast from the East" (i.e. cold winds from Siberia) and sunshine has been in short supply for the past three or four days. All taken in Oxford with K5 or K-01 and DA 40mm or DA 35mm macro.

Brrrrr. Especially love the last shot with the colour of the bricks against the white.
Thanks to everyone for the interesting pictures from boat houses to flowers.

Some really beautiful and inspiring images on this thread. Thanks for hosting, Arnold.
Not a regular participant but because of long hours at work, lack of light and having become bereft of subject matter in my mind. I was hoping to grab some mojo from y'alls images.
Here is hoping I catch a wind of inspiration with a few weeks off from work in front of me. I thought I'd share some of what little I have captured in the time period.

This one was for a challenge here on PF.

Arnold and Paul,

even though my father gave me his old Ilford Sportsman, now passed on to my daughter (seems 35mm has got a cool-factor with the younger), I didnīt get into photography until the mid 90īs. I really like your pics for may things and one being the different kind of softness, than with digital, I see in these pictures, or so I think I do anyway. Thanks for sharing // Nick
