POTW #246 23 Dec 2012 through 6 Jan 2013
Posted By: ramseybuckeye, 01-01-2013, 07:09 AM

Welcome to Picture of the week #246 covering 23 December 2012 through 6 January 2013. Thanks to Nick Nero for an outstanding job of hosting an extra long POTW! This POTW lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week. POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time. There are just so many splendid photos out there so let's see you post them to this POW 245

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.
4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.
5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Here are the records of previous POTW threads:

Many thanks for hosting again, ramseybuckeye. Some very atmospheric winter and Xmas shots so far! Love them. Here are a few of mine. Until a couple of days ago, it was deluging with rain here and flooding - no snow though. My K5 and DA 16-50mm or smc-A 50mm f1.4.

Not sure I get that one either, but you are definitely the number one photographer to the star's graves. I'm not sure why, but I'm fascinated, I think they bring back movie memories. I can here Bela Lugosi in my mind!

Congrats on that new K5, I see you are putting it to use with a wide variety of subjects! I like that shot of the gargoyle on the corner post, really cool!

Wow, quite the flooding in Oxford. Water looks like this week's theme, I hope you haven't personally got flooded. I've noticed the pouring rain in every EPL match I've watched the last couple of weeks. Stay dry and keep this good stuff coming!

Spectacular colors there David! I assume these are from the famous DA15 that you have mastered! I really like the two totally different compositions of the same place from the nearly the same angle, well done.

Thanks, Tom. I'm glad you like my images. Your are partially right about the lenses used: The first one was taken with the DA 15, the second one with the F 35-70 and the last one with the F 28. As you can see I did quite some lens changes in this short period of time ;-)

I wrote two compositions but mean all three are different, and excellent!

I haven't played in this thread in a good while. So, I thought I'd post some I didn't want to add to PYP. Thanks for hosting Tom.

Christmas cactus I cared for a year. Bought it in November 2011.

The two roses, I was edting them while my internet tech was here. He saw the white one and asked if I took this photo and I said yes. He said it was beautiful, til I showed him my red one, he said Wow!. Then he said, your camera takes good photos.....And I said no, my camera didn't do that I did.

Nice photos and a nice response. I'm sure no offense was meant by the tech, but it's amazing how little people know about photography. I bet nobody ever watched an artist and said "your brush paints good pictures". It's amazing how often you here that stuff, people really think that. That's why there is so much pristine camera equipment in people's closets. And they will swear their P&S takes better pictures!

When I told him I shoot Pentax because I think they are better at capturing what I see, he said, he'd heard that before about Pentax. Before he left, I said, my photos are for sale too, if you're interested.

Learning With A "New To Me" Lens

These are two of the many images I captured in December with the "new to me" SMC Pentax-F 100-300 1:4.5-5.6 I bought at the local camera shop. I participated with that lens in the "Single in December" activity at Pentaxforums, but I didn't post these two images there.
"Leaf in Icy Water" was processed in Nik Software's Color Efex Pro 4 (as a plug-in to Photoshop Elements).
You might want to view the photographs on black in the Flickr thread.
Comments and suggestions are most welcome — in this thread or by e-mail or personal message.
Best wishes to all.

I like the leaf shot Stuart. Nicely done sir.

Per your lens. I bought that as my first autofocus zoom lens when I was shooting film back in the middle 90's. I bought it for $189 from Porters and sold it in 2005 to a friend for $75. I liked how it worked but at the time I sold it I lost my photo mojo.
