Weekly Challenge # 47 - Vanishing Point

Weekly Challenge # 47 - Vanishing Point

Wikipedia defines it as follows:
"A vanishing point is a point in a perspective drawing to which parallel lines appear to converge. The number and placement of the vanishing points determines which perspective technique is being used.".

This task this week is to shoot a picture with a clearly defined Vanishing Point.

It’s an area I like and I look forward to some great and creative shots. Pictures taken outdoors like the one below, taken close focus, or anything in between are all possible options for this challenge.

The following example is a picture with vanishing point I shot with my P&S last summer. But I'm sure you all have a good idea of what I'm looking for.

The contest will run until 11:59 PM (midnight) EST on Tuesday, February 26th. I’ll try to post the winners on the 27th.

The rules are as always:

The rules:
1. Post ONE photo (max 800x800) as a response to THIS post.
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme. It can be colour or B&W, your choice.
3. You can offer as much or as little additional information as you wish, but I'd be interested to know the location/event/whatever being depicted.
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and chose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. The challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any camera will do but it must be a Pentax. Just use any camera you want. No discriminating anyone as long as the shooter is an active member here.

Previous Challenge Subjects:
1-Statues, 2-Wheels, 3-Speed, 4-Peace, 5-Survival, 6-Macro, 7-Mountains, 8-Children, 9-Post Processing, 10- Windows & Doors, 11-Sport, 12-Urban Landscape, 13-Wisdom, 14-Power, 15-Music, 16-Pathways, 17-Lines, 18-Storm, 19-Boats, 20-Water, 21 - Golden Hour, 22 - Natural Lighting, Portraits, 23- Motion Blur, 24-Simplicity, 25-Color, 26-Cars, 27-Repetition, 28-Wildlife, 29-Epiphany, 30-Contrast, 31-Pets, 32-Landscapes, 33-Coastal, 34-Churches, 35-Bridges, 36-Creation, 37-Still LIfe: Food, 38-At the Zoo, 39-Wide Aperture, 40-Merry Christmas, 41- Sunsets, 42-Action, 43-Fireworks, 44-Manipulated Light Portraits, 45- Advertising/Product Shot, 46- B&W Street Shooting, people/buildings

The End of the Road

Mrs. Workingdog and I went for a ride looking for something for the weekly challenge. Passed up some railroad tracks and rows of corn and finally settled on this one.

Thanks Axl, That's a great shot in many regards you have there as well. Love those moody B&W's.

I'm at wits end right now trying to decide whether to keep the submission I already posted or to change my submission to something that I just shot today!

It's so easy to shoot a vanishing point photo using an ultra-wide angle lens... It's just that you have to pick your spots/shots right...

Ah well, I'll just stick with what I submitted and will just post my other VP shots on the results thread.

@tpeace: Your shot reminds me of "No Country For Old Men". Hehe.

Overlooking the city of Quito

Here's my entry. Shot from the trail on the way to the Rim of Mount Pichincha in Quito, Ecuador, looking back at the city.

New Entry

Ok.. I here is my new entry... I have deleted my last one.. it wasn't that good..

This is opposite of what most everyone else has done, but it is still a vanishing point. The vanishing part just coming toward you instead of away from you..

My son was typing this afternoon on the computer and when we printed it out it gave me the idea... I hope you like it!!

I took this shot last summer, so it isn't a new shot. But I thought it fit the theme. So I went back and reworked it a little as well. This was taken first thing in the morning and the smoke from nearby forest fires was still hanging on the water. Thats my mother-in law on the dock releasing a bass that she just caught.

All Aboard

Even though there are quite a few train themes in this challenge I thought I'd add another one.
All Aboard...

What a cool challenge and some awesome photos.
I've played around with the PP on this one so much that I'm not sure where I'm at anymore, I'll just submit it and see what you guys think. I got it as good as I could in color and then ran a Matt Kloscowski preset on it in Lightroom 1.3 and then fiddled with it some more.
