POTW #247 30 Dec 2012 through 13 Jan 2013
Posted By: ramseybuckeye, 01-06-2013, 06:31 AM

Welcome to Picture of the week #246 covering 23 December 2012 through 6 January 2013. Since the last POTW was a short one I'll go ahead and host this full week, if you would like to host next week please send me a PM, otherwise I will be asking you. Last week there was a lot of variety and quality here, let's keep it up! This POTW lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week. POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time. There are just so many splendid photos out there so let's see you post them to this POW 245

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.
4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.
5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Here are the records of previous POTW threads:

Hi all and Happy New Year!
Drove from Seattle to Vancouver on the 30th and by the side of highway 99 north of White Rock we saw some trees with about 50 bald eagles in them. Tried to get onto an access road that would let us get closer but ended up driving around aimlessly for 45 minutes before getting back on to the highway. This time around though the camera was ready. My wife shot this out the window of the car doing 60 miles an hour. My new K-5 with the DA 55-300mm.

Tom,
big thank you for hosting #246 and now again and doing such a good job with it Was a lot of truly awesome contributions last potw.

Hollidays over and back in the loop there hasnīt been much time for taking the camera out for a spin lately. These few from last Friday is about all Iīve done the past couple of weeks. Well, did some night shooting last night but they need some looking over before posting anywhere.

That's remarkable, and your wife is pretty good at that car window shooting! However 50 is not right, I'm pretty sure there are at least 60 there! I thought you had to go to Alaska to see anything like that. WOW

Nick, thanks for that tour of Stockholm. I like your choice of wide panoramic type shots, I like them. Hope you can post a couple of those night shots here.

Thanks for hosting Tom! (And thanks for redirecting me to this newer edition) I got out for a winter walk in a forest this weekend and captured some scenes to explore Nik Software's Color Efex Pro with:

Joe, those are some excellent views, especially the two with the sun. They both have such a different look because of the cloud affected light. Good stuff!

Thanks for hosting ramseybuckeye. Enjoying the winters scenes above. Here in Australia a nation wide heatwave has fires breaking out all over the country.
This picture taken last week is by a 1959 H2 Pentax with an old Auto Tacumar 55mm f2.0 lens. The film was old expired Fuji 200. The picture is unprocessed as it came from the camera but could do with some help. It was a very hot day if it isn't obvious.

Thanks for hosting again Tom - some spectacular examples on display this week! Arnold, I can feel the sweat in my eyes looking at that shot. We had our own Summer of Hell a couple yrs ago, with 100 days of 100F temps or more

I was hiking in a very desolate area not too far from home, and I thought the scenery (or lack of) lent itself well to monochrome. All taken with a K10D & 18-55 kit lens.

At least the sky offered some color...

Thanks for hosting again Tom. Lots of beautiful shots already!

Just took a few shots today. Heard a cardinal singing outside, grabbed my camera and saw it sitting up there on the roof. This is with my 35mm lens so it's kind of far away. Shot through the window.

For interest, here is what it looks like full-crop. f5.6 through the window.

After getting a few shots, I went back and got my old SMC Takumar 200mm and adaptor, in hopes I could get a shot with it. But the cardinal was gone when I returned. Only saw this shy little bird, which usually hide under trees. I just snapped it quickly before he flew away, so wasn't able to get a better shot. Wonder what the name of this bird is.

(I was able to get some shots of bohemian waxwings about a month ago. Never saw them around before. Saw cedar waxwings in the spring. Beautiful birds.)

The colour of that cardinal is incredible! I'm a bit of a newbie, what does full-crop mean?

I took a few snaps of a '61 Cadillac I came across. Wish I had a chance to get it in front of a decent backdrop!

Shot this one in a nearby paddock before my friends and I were kicked out by a farmer who thought we were stealing his sheep, ha!
