POTW #248 6 Jan 2013 through 20 Jan 2013
Posted By: Douge, 01-12-2013, 12:29 PM

Welcome to Picture of the week #248 covering 6 Jan 2013 through 20 Jan 2013. I am new to Pentax forums, so please let me know if I made any mistakes in the dates etc. I am relatively new to photography, so I may not have the most insightful commentary. If you would like to host next week please send me a PM, otherwise I will be asking you. Last week we had a lot of beautiful shots, and new members! This POTW lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week. POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time. There are just so many splendid photos out there so let's see you post them to this POW 248.

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.
4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.
5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Here are the records of previous POTW threads:

Couple of shots taken while walking along my local estuary playing with my new K30 , trying to get used to its settings and finding my way around it. Any comments and advice would be appreciated.

Was feeling pretty tired after getting home late last night, but wanted to take a picture of the fog before heading to bed. (Fog was worse on the highway)
This was about 2am and I didn't feel like venturing far beyond my door for a better shot
Light on the left is sodium, and I guess magnesium on the right.

Today I put on my old SMC Takumar 200mm lens in hopes of getting some bird shots. Was thinking there would be lots of birds around since it's so warm today. I ended up not seeing or hearing very many at all. Maybe they were confused; wondering why it's so warm in the middle of winter
.

Well, at least I got this one. These birds were very quiet.

Thank you for picking up the torch Douge. Both you and Rich kicking it off with some really good ones I see. Especially like your foggy one. Perfect.
Only have an old 1931 restored Steamship named Stockholm to contribute with at the moment.

Welcome and thanks Douge for sending us onward. I had to move some of my furniture lumber yesterday to my workshop when these little fellows began scurrying slowly from my school lumber yard.

Half an hour from home, on a hot day, even the cows seek shelter from the sun.
Taken by Pentax KX, Fuji 200 (expired) and M50mm f1.4 [No PP]

Thank you

That's a lovely shot of the steamship Nick! I like how the clouds stretch back into the distance. Also the reflection of the clouds on the windows, and the exposure of the ship in the dim light. Good to see people restoring old steamships.

Great pictures of the lizards lukulele. Cute little guys! I guess they are anoles? I really like the first one! Are they usually out this time of year? Or do you think they were sleeping under your lumber for the winter.
They do kind of look sleepy hehe.

A very telling shot Arnold. I can feel the heat! All of that shade is going to fill up soon. They better watch out for Drop-Bears though!! Feel for you Auzzies, keep hearing about the heat, fires and dust storms on the news. I don't recall which area the fires are in though. They had a story about volunteer fire fighters who saved a man's house on the news.

Just a few shots of some ducks I came across today. 200mm SMC Takumar again. There was lots of brush in front of the stream and the ducks tried to hide behind it the best they could.

I love the first picture with the night lights.

Yellow Pepper and Friends

This is best viewed on black at the flickr site.

My fascination with peppers (and other colorful vegetables and fruit) continues.

SMC Pentax-DA 1:3.5-5-6 18-55mm AL at 1/6 on handheld K-x, f/14, center-weighted averaging, ISO 800.

Late morning sunlight is coming through a sliding glass door behind the peppers.

Thanks for any comments and suggestions. (If you prefer, please feel free to use PM or e-mail.)

I agree, they make very gratefull motifs. This 1931 steamer has actually had quite an eventfull life and is packed with history. In the last chapter it was saved from being broken down in the late 90´s and restored to full glory to be renamed and baptised by the King himself in 2000. She´s now cruising the Stockholm archipelago.

Thanks for hosting Douge - I really enjoyed those mallard shots
I don't have a lot to offer again this week, just some around the yard kit lens photos -

Backyard sunset:

Icicles on our nandina, from water dripping down from the roof (crop):

Another sunset, from the front porch this time:

Interesting to see the colour of light reflected off the red pepper. Some almost looks like purple fringing (on the edge). The yellow is quite different. I guess you ate them after? :-))
