POTW #250 20 Jan 2013 through 3 Feb 2013
Posted By: Douge, 01-27-2013, 02:23 PM

Welcome to Picture of the week #250(!) covering 20 Jan 2013 through 3 Feb 2013. Number 250! Should we have a celebration? Perhaps we should eat a little cake and have a little drink in honour of this occasion. (Or a lot, if you are feeling quite festive) Let's see those great, interesting shots you've been taking in your part of the world If you would like to host next week please send me a PM, otherwise I will be asking you. There was plenty of wildlife and landscapes to be seen last week! This POTW lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week. POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. We can share ideas, learn from one another, tell stories, and have a good time. There are just so many splendid photos out there so let's see you post them to this POW 250.

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.
4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.
5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Here are the records of previous POTW threads:

Hehe!

Well I'll start of with a picture of my Crazy cat (must take after her master).
Enjoying a roll in the snow.

A nuthatch which was hanging out with a group of chickadees again. My cat was eying them.

Someone clearing the snow on the pond. It'll probably melt again this week...

Douge, great job for doing this again. I've been cleaning out my classroom and moving my woodworking equipment to the mtns. this weekend. A sunny day turned into bleak, washed out sky after unloading.

Thanks Douge, you do an excellent job of hosting. We had a break from our 'too perfect' weather and were hit by a cyclone. I resorted to my K5 this time with a shot out the window. Wind speeds 125kph (75mph). I sit atop a mountain and catch the full force of wind from the ocean. However, the house is constructed with steel rods that tie the roof to the foundations, so it can take at least 220 kph. After that who knows?

Nice shot Tom Is that a nuthatch as well? Too bad the wildlife was shy or napping on a Sunday. At least it must have been a nice walk

What an interesting looking building lukulele. I am just wondering, are the two shots posted things you saw on the mountain or do they belong to you?

Wow! That's some weather you're getting arnold! Nice job capturing the power and violence of the storm. Sounds like your place is well put together. Do take care.
We are expecting snow then freezing rain and then rain here. So that should be fun. Although freezing rain leaves roads horrible for driving, when everything is coated in ice it looks quite interesting in photos

Colorado Street bridge in Pasadena - locally known as "suicide bridge".

The 134 Freeway bridge is on the right. You can walk a trail under them.

The Saint Francis Dam collapsed in 1928, killing about 600, second worst California disaster after the San Francisco earthquake in 1906. The wall of water went 54 miles to the ocean in about 5-1/2 hours.

View from the "wing dike" remnants on the west side. The horizontal pile across the road was the center section, and beyond that the curving rubble up the hill is part of the eastern side and landslide. Most of the center section stayed upright after the break, but it and the wing dike were later dynamited for safety.

Yes Douge, a white-breasted nuthatch, about twice as big as those beautiful red-breasted nuthatches that you shot. Where I live in western Ohio the white-breasted is common, the red-breasted is usually rare, although we've had a lot of them this Fall and Winter.

Ah ok I believe I see the white-breasted ones up at the cottage in the non-winter months. Their peeping sound reminds me of finches. I don't remember seeing these red-breasted ones with the stripe on their eye. I've seen a lot of types of birds which I've never seen before over the past year or so. (butterflies as well) The waxwings, an Orioles which woke me up one morning, Common Mergansers, other kinds of ducks, some migratory birds which resembled large sparrows, etc.

Great shots! I especially like the second one.
That's an interesting spot for a fire hydrant

Douge, the building is in the valley beneath us and appears to have been farm storage. The vines are reminiscent of the witch's house in Tim Burton's "Big Fish." The foundation under the right side is supported by large random stones appearing imminently ready to scatter. The silo/dump truck is a few miles from us on the crest of the Eastern Continental Divide in Alleghany County, North Carolina.

I haven't had much opportunity to get out lately but the weather was really nice last weekend (just as we are plunging into another deep freeze) so I went out to one of my favourite sites.
