Weekly Challenge 231 - Cold as Ice
Posted By: StephenHampshire, 01-29-2013, 05:49 AM

Honoured to have won last week, although it is a favourite shot of mine! In the UK we have just had a bit of winter weather, and my son has just come back from Michigan were it was retty cold too - so this week's theme is "Cold as Ice" Of course for those of you in the Southern Hemisphere, this could include ice cubes in a drink, or a more allegorical reading, perhaps that person you know with a rather forbidding personality?
Bit late setting this, so I thionk this sahould run to Sunday 3rd Feb- hope that is ok

A couple of my more literal intepretations....

Wow some really nice cold shots and I can certainly appreciate the cold. Here's a crisp morning (I think it was only -17C so hardly 'cold' by our standards). The morning sunrise and there is a natural hot spring under the open water causing the steam to rise.

Some really fine pictures here....interesting split between "close ups of weird looking ice formations" and "cold weather landscapes"!

I couldn't decide whether to go with an icy macro or a larger landscape view. Finally decided to go with something slightly in-between. Shot of the Bronx river on the last day of the freeze we just had. Shot was taken last Sunday and Monday it got well above freezing and was rainy. All the beautiful ice is gone now. Sigh.

NaCl(maybe we'll get lucky and have another extended freeze)H2O

Opted for the landscape... taken this past Christmas Day near my parents' home in west central Alberta, Canada the temperature was in the mid -20s C with a bone racking windchill.
