POTW #251 27 Jan 2013 through 10 Feb 2013
Posted By: Dr Orloff, 02-03-2013, 03:23 PM

Welcome to Picture of the Week #251 covering 27 Jan 2013 through 10 Feb 2013. Douge has passed the baton to me, this is my first time hosting so I hope I do a decent job. Thanks to Douge for holding fort for so long. The last POTW definitely had an emphasis on cold, but apparently an oversized rat in Pennsylvania has said that's spring's coming so let's see if he's right. I hope his influence extends to France. If you would like to host next week please send me a PM, otherwise I will be asking you. This POTW lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week. POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. We can share ideas, learn from one another, tell stories, and have a good time. There are just so many splendid photos out there so let's see you post them to this POW 251.

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.
4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.
5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Here are the records of previous POTW threads:

I'll kick off with a couple of shots inspired by the last monthly comp here. Taken with the K55mm f1.8, it's a great lens, everyone should have one. Same subject, different angles:

Another image from last week.. I was somewhat disappointed by
the monochromatic nature of the images, this one has some colour...

I finally got out of my mid-winter funk and got shooting again. I spent the day shooting motorcycle and ATV racing on a nearby lake. I got some keepers. It's been quite a while since I shot this kind of event and I'm rusty. The riders were happy with them so I guess that's what counts.

The "track". Great Sacandaga Lake in Northville, NY

The spray of ice and snow makes it tough if you're not in front. It also created havoc with my auto focus.

Thanks for hosting Doc

Took a wrong turn that turned........out to be a lucky one the other day. If not I wouldn´t have come passed to see the bridge was up.
To add to the story; When I was kid, 6 or 7 yrs of age, I had a nasty fall and on the way to the hospital, to have my skull patched up again, this very bridge did of course have to open. While sitting there crying and waiting for the bridge to close again, I remember asking my mother if this was it, if I was gonna die now. But no, a couple of hours and few stitches later I was as good as new

Lovely sunset and you´ve made good use of it. Especially the first two frame some very nice silhouettes. // Nick

Whilst I´m on it, let´s throw in a flower too. What I was aiming at with this picture was a 3D feeling, close up and yet lots of depth. You´ll be the judges

Very good job. I´m intrigued. What exposure times did you use for these? // Nick

Well at least she didn't say "the bridge was pointing up to heaven for that reason.
