POTW #254 17 Feb 2013 through 3 Mar 2013
Posted By: nosliwmit, 02-24-2013, 06:16 AM

Welcome to Picture of the Week #254 covering 17 Feb 2013 through 3 Mar 2013. Thanks to lukulele and all of last week's participants for their stellar work. If you would like to host next week please send me a PM, otherwise I will be asking you. This POTW lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week. POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. We can share ideas, learn from one another, tell stories, and have a good time. There are just so many splendid photos out there so let's see you post them to this POTW 254.

I'm starting off with a couple of not-so-good photos from my dog walk this morning (but the week is still young!). An "almost" photo of a heron on final approach and a couple of vultures (zopilotes here in Panama) patiently waiting for something to die.

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.
4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.
5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Here are the records of previous POTW threads:

Happy Monday all. Some great shots as usual.

After starting the thread yesterday I went to the Gatun locks on the Panama Canal and to San Lorenzo N.P. to see an old ruined Spanish fort. Got lucky and saw a bunch of howler monkeys, a three-toed sloth and a chestnut-mandibled toucan as well. Here's a howler with a young 'un, the toucan from below and the stern of a container ship going through the Gatun Locks. This particular ship paid a $384,000 toll to go through the canal...
I do like that howler monkey shot. Funny but 30 years ago exactly I working on an honours thesis on behavioural ecology and the foraging strategies of howler monkeys.

Near a village called Dienten in Hochkoening, Austria today. Weather was too crapy for skiing. No sun, heavy overcast. But hey, i'm not complaining. Just so lucky to be in these beautiful surroundings, I would be crazy if did
Straight from the memory card...............

nicknero - look at all that snow! jealous! i'm never brave enough to take my dslrs out on the slopes. i'm too much of an amateur and am terrified of landing on it.

Just one for now, cross posted in a few other threads.

Went to the camera fair on the weekend to sell lenses and somehow or other picked up a few lenses on the side....

This is the tamron 35-135 22a. shot this in practical pitch dark (tail end of dusk) where wolfie boy looked at me and said can you even shoot anything in this??? Love the dreamy bokeh and the fact that you can only see sock monkey's bottom.
Itīs always greener on the other side (pun intended) isnīt it? Thing is Iīm always jealous of you guys for having what you have just around your corner. Be it the Americas or Down under, UK, SA or Asia........our street is always the quieter it seems. Which in all honesty has itīs advantages Monday to Friday

They (howlers) make the most amazing sound - it sounds more like a T-rex should sound than a monkey. There was a young boy (4 or 5 maybe) near us and when one of the monkeys howled it scared the heck out of the kid and he ran away howling himself. It was funny but I felt bad for the kid...

Thanks for hosting nosliwmit,

I've been short on time lately, so not a lot going on. I got out shortly after moonrise Monday to try to get some shots of the full moon, this one is a 15 second exposure, partly lit by my car lights since the sunlight was gone. The egg shaped moon shows how fast it moves when this low.

This one is from a littler earlier

Still in Austria I went in to a local village called Maria Alm before dinner tonight and knocked myself out with some blue hour shooting.........
Otherwise very foggy and no conditions for anything scenic. Will hopfully improve.

Many thanks for hosting, noslimwit. Wow, some amazing pictures this week particularly the trains, Yosemite, a beautiful set from jmschrei and that straaange convention. I've only been out a couple of times and am still using my new buy, a P-M 120mm f2.8. It seems a lovely lens and pulls in detail even from miles away. Too bad it hasn't been reissued as it is wonderfully small and light too. In the first pic you can even read the inscriptions below the statues although they are way, way up a church spire.

Charlotte from the backside and crunching to see the rock folks while hiking...both Q. The local freight pick-up in a hurry returning to the yard. Last trains this week, I promise.

There were some great shots in this POTW thread.

Mecrox -- Great photos with your 120/2.8 (it looks like a lens to look out for!). I especially like the photo of the girl with the bikes.

Monoloco, Nick Nero and ramseybuckeye -- great night shots (I'm a sucker for night shots).

Thanks to everyone for posting this week. I had a busy week at work and never got around to soliciting a host for next week so I'll get next week's thread started.

Please let me know if you want to host next week!

Nosliwmit, My apologies, I see I am late for this POTW. Will post in the next one-perhaps a double portion!
