Welcome to Picture of the Week #254 covering 17 Feb 2013 through 3 Mar 2013. Thanks to lukulele and all of last week's participants for their stellar work. If you would like to host next week please send me a PM, otherwise I will be asking you. This POTW lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week. POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. We can share ideas, learn from one another, tell stories, and have a good time. There are just so many splendid photos out there so let's see you post them to this POTW 254.

I'm starting off with a couple of not-so-good photos from my dog walk this morning (but the week is still young!). An "almost" photo of a heron on final approach and a couple of vultures (zopilotes here in Panama) patiently waiting for something to die.

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.
4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

Normally I use film, but my newly acquired Pentax Q has given me so much fun, It is so "Qute" I had to submit something from it. Here is the view from my deck toward the ocean.
If you look next to the post on the deck, you may be just able to make out some white buildings that are six miles away on the ocean. The second shot is from the same deck, but using a 135mm lens and pulls them in.

Went to the camera fair on the weekend to sell lenses and somehow or other picked up a few lenses on the side....

This is the tamron 35-135 22a. shot this in practical pitch dark (tail end of dusk) where wolfie boy looked at me and said can you even shoot anything in this??? Love the dreamy bokeh and the fact that you can only see sock monkey's bottom.

jmschrei - Nice series -- I especially like the fence photo.
bucfan - I like the nautical series and the tavern with the dead-head sticker on the door. Wilmington NC?
Dogs and people and, uh, sock monkeys? Nice diversity! I love the background colors Wolfiegirl.
Arnold's, Lukulele's and Nick Nero's photos aren't showing up in my browser (but I did see a nice-looking train shot while I was at work earlier). Guess I need to play with my options...

After starting the thread yesterday I went to the Gatun locks on the Panama Canal and to San Lorenzo N.P. to see an old ruined Spanish fort. Got lucky and saw a bunch of howler monkeys, a three-toed sloth and a chestnut-mandibled toucan as well. Here's a howler with a young 'un, the toucan from below and the stern of a container ship going through the Gatun Locks. This particular ship paid a $384,000 toll to go through the canal...

Ya, it was fun. The girls in the first shot loved the photo, so that made my day. There was an improv group there who were really great. And the Daleks from the Dr. Who society were fantastic. (and quite witty )

I really like the shots of the howler monkeys and toucan.
