POTW #255 24 Feb 2013 through 10 Mar 2013
Posted By: nosliwmit, 03-03-2013, 06:28 AM

Welcome to Picture of the Week #255 covering 24 Feb 2013 through 10 Mar 2013. Thanks to nosliwmit and all of last week's participants for their stellar work. If you would like to host next week please send me a PM, otherwise I will be asking you. This POTW lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week. POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. We can share ideas, learn from one another, tell stories, and have a good time. There are just so many splendid photos out there so let's see them here at POTW 255.

I haven’t taken any photos since last Sunday, so here’s the last photo I took (or at least the last one I kept) on 3/3. This is an old church in an area of Panama City called Casco Viejo (or Casco Antiguo), which is the second heart of the old colonial city (after the first colonial city, now known as Panama Viejo, was sacked by Welsh privateer/pirate Henry Morgan in 1671).

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.
4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.
5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Here are the records of previous POTW threads:

Many thanks for hosting again, noslimit. More fantastic shots this week, I really love the toned and b/w ones especially Bear in the snow and the lonely lake by Konstanz, very beautiful. Skiing or sunbathing? It's all here. These are a few of mine, just local places around here or in London, alas no sun-kissed vistas or mountain views this week. All taken with my new MX-1 compact which is just what I want for a happy-snappy, go-anywhere cam:

We're on page 3 already and it's only Wednesday!

Casil403 - Great dog shots! I agree, they're frame-worthy.

Nick - I'm unlikely to get tired of looking at the Austrian alps. My very first experience downhill skiing was in Scheffau (around 1978, so that should date me...). I spent a fantastic week in Ramsau am Dachstein 30 years later and would love to go back.

Paulh - Nice shots of your kids and the horses. I particularly like the one of your daughter with the horse.

Mecrox - That MX-1 takes great photos--they're really crisp and clean (highly technical photographic terms; you can use them if you like!). I really like the B&W shot of the guys walking along the wall. You have so much gorgeous architecture to shoot over there (I'm sure you've heard about the ABCs -- another bloody church, another bloody castle, another bloody cathedral...).

those london shots are lovely and evocative. especially like that black and white one.

here's a few more of the wolfiepup as requested. decided to dress her up today and do a little photoshoot. also got around to setting up the tripod, but it'll be another day before I use it. least it's out of its bag now.

this one not as sharp as i'd like. had the m50 1.4 on the k-01 and was moving around a little too fast to adjust the focus ring in time while she moved.

ended up sharpening a little in pp

luckily not all of them were slightly blurry. i swear she looks like a little buddah sometimes. lol.

poor little girl has no chin. lol. baby faces are interesting. they constantly change. does make you wonder what they'll end up looking like in the long run.

and here's some more ordinary stuff - obviously i was in a photograph-y mood today.

wolfieboy got me some flowers last week after a particularly trying night. they are now a little past it, but make for great photography opportunities.

tamron 90mm macro on the k-o1.

I´m glad to hear it brings out memories. Ramsau is about an hour east of where we stayed. And in my book 1978 is yesterday............ // Nick

Classic snurl pose monoloco. Snarl and lip curl combined indicating either this is wonderful or don't mess with me.

Lots of lovely photos. I can't keep up!
Looks like you are having a great vacation Nick. Such beautiful shots.
And the MX-1 is looking great mecrox. My favourite is the blossoms with pink door.
Your wolfiepup is adorable wolfiegirl

I took some test shots with my new Rikenon 70-150mm f/4 zoom lens. (It was suggested by Jim-in-Oregon on the pricewatch thread) Got it for $65. The lens was quite dusty when I got it, so I spent some time cleaning it. A puffer, brush and lens pen worked wonders on the rear element.

The lens seems quite sharp to me. I must admit that I couldn't figure out how to get the aperture to work the first day! With my M42 lenes, I look for the "Auto/Manual" switch and the lens stops down right away on manual. With my Rokinon 35mm, it has a auto mode spot on the aperture ring. But the Rikenon didn't work the same way. I had it on TAv mode which I sometimes use on the M42 and Rokinon lenses.... (Wow i just realized how close "Rikenon" and "Rokinon" sound after writing them down lol). Anyway I asked for help, and someone suggested switching to M Mode, and that worked. I didn't think it would matter haha. I haven't had a lens like this one before. I thought it would be the same as a M42 lens. But was pleasantly surprised. It also has a little built-in hood.

I uploaded full sized test shots, but I guess flickr will not show them at full size.
I could see almost no fringing on the branches wide-open. This is with front-light. I only got fringing on harsh things like snow, and reflections on water.

The first day I wondered if there was an airshow on or something, because there were so many planes flying around. And around and around... When I looked at my shots, I noticed the landing gear down on one plane. So I guess there was some sort of problem/backup at the small airport.

Really liking the lens so far. Also, the focus ring isn't too stiff, so I can focus quickly.

Love the colourful left behind toy on the white snow, Douge. One of these everyday things that once you spot them, they make wonderfull images. Sometimes even pack a little message or thought to be had. Good one. // Nick

More snow. Having a coffee in a small village called Dienten I spotted this rather estetic formation of snow. It´s snow on the roofs of four rather tight standing houses and at certain angle this is how it came out.

Thanks noelcmn and Douge.

I also love that dirty toy in the snow. you should put that in the every day objects thread!

Had a hell of a night - wolfiepup's going through a growth spurt. No more photos methinks until next week. Just don't have the energy to edit. *sigh*

Wow that's a lot of snow! They must have some good roofs there! :P

Thanks, I thought it was interesting seeing the toy there since it was in the "forest". It must of washed downstream and some kids fished it out of the water and left it there. Oh, I haven't seen the everyday objects thread

This is where I found it by the stream.
