POTW #264 28 Apr 2013 through 12 May 2013
Posted By: pentaximus, 05-05-2013, 05:44 AM

Welcome to another round of Picture of the Week. This is edition #264 covering 28 Apr 2013 through 12 May 2013.

Thanks to mecrox for hosting last week and coaxing a fine collection of shots from our fellow Pentaxians. POTW is a great spot to show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week. POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. We can share ideas, learn from one another, tell stories, and have a good time.

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.
4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.
5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Here are the records of previous POTW threads:

You captured the water drops beautifully. Regarding the ballet, how were you able to fire your shutter during someone else's flash which is very brief? Good capture of the shadows.
I actually had no idea I had captured anything during their flash. I was distracted by it, as I'm sure the dancers were as well. Then after the piece I was reviewing my shots and was glad to see this shadow shot. You just have to develop a great sense of timing in photography. Or, get lucky. I choose lucky.

Welcome to POTW, mtux! That's a fine shot. Well-exposed and composed. A beach in Malaysia sounds pretty good right about now as our chilly spring continues! Looking forward to more stuff from you.

A Pentax user in my local camera club graciously responded to my request for the settings he used when photographing carnival rides at dusk. I tweaked that a bit, and then I tweaked some more by using Nik's Viveza 2 plugged into Photoshop Elements 10. (It also would plug into Photoshop, Aperture or Lightroom.)
My K-x was tripod-mounted, and I used an electronic remote shutter release.
Comments and criticism are welcome — in this thread or by e-mail or Personal Message.

Thanks pentaximus,
Here is another shot from that trip, It may not look very well as I'm trying to use DarkTable for PP on Linux and I'm not yet comfortable with it.

These banana boats (they call it this way) is quite popular as a beach activity in Malaysia, Here is a big group of local people going to have adventure with it.
Thanks to my K30 weather sealing which made me brave to go into water (just myself ) and photograph people swimming and boating there from a nearer place

Thanks for hosting pentaximus. Great stuff this week! Here's some shots from nearby Lake Grapevine one evening last week. We are lucky to live just a few blocks from it. I used my old Tokina RMC 80-200 MF zoom for these. It's a tank of a lens, but it has good color & sharpness, imo.

Thanks for hosting, pentaximus! A lot of great images here this week!

For me it's a premiere: I managed to develop a black & white film in time so I can post the images in this thread.
Pentax ME, various lenses, Ilford FP4+ developed in D-76:

And one digital image:

Have a great week!
Cheers,
David

Really like this, Stuart! It not only has a sense of motion, but also of serious speed.

Some nice manual focusing going on there, Paul! And I like how you composed that last shot. Very nice.

More film! Thanks for sharing these with us. I especially like the first and last of your film shots. How did you digitize them? I would like to get around to developing b&w one of these years...

Thanks for all the contributions so far! I think things look pretty darn good around here for a Tuesday. I can't wait to see what else "develops" this week!

Ah, D-76. I remember it well. Also Dektol. I used to develop 4x5 sheet film from Crown Graphics and Speed Graphics. Thanks, David, for posting the nice images and for prompting the memories.

Thanks also to all who've posted in this thread and to everyone for the "likes" and comments.

Ahh, had a bunch of pictures to post but then I just realized that they are expired for this POTW! Well this experimentation result will have to do...

The rose was red with fading edge on the petals so I decided to over expose it a bit using flash and a bit of adjustment in PP to get the final result. I didn't really know if it was going to work or what I was doing but I think it turned out interesting. I kind of wish more of it was in focus but at the same time I think it gives a little bit of mysterious feel to it right now.

Thanks for hosting, pentaximus. I've been on the forum very little in the past week, I've been out with the camera, and I see a lot of others have too, some very nice images so far, well done all. I'll bore you with some bird pics, Ive, spent 3 days in the last week shooting migratory birds, it's been very fun. Even saw a Pentaxforum member out there on Monday, and at least three other Pentaxians on Tuesday.

I like the experiment. The softness adds to the abstraction. Very interesting!

I spy an observatory? And I really like the light on the water. A lovely silhouette. I think dusk is the time I'd be coming in from the ocean though!

Glad you showed up, Tom. I feared we would have a POTW without you! Also, glad to hear you spotted some Pentaxians out there in the wild. I hear those are some rare birds!

I attended my niece's elementary school production of Annie on Tuesday night. Here are a few from that occasion. Here she is captured mid-song.

And here are some familiar scenes and characters:

Thanks, K-30 and a rented Sigma 50-500. I still have a lot of photos to go through, I had to make the most of the rental.

Here's a Cape May Warbler:
