POTW #265 05 May 2013 through 19 May 2013
Posted By: pentaximus, 05-12-2013, 05:55 AM

Welcome to another round of Picture of the Week. This is edition #265 covering 05 May 2013 through 19 May 2013.

A big thank you to the guy that hosted last week. POTW is a great spot to show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week. POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. We can share ideas, learn from one another, tell stories, and have a good time.

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.
4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.
5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Here are the records of previous POTW threads:

I'm too rushed at the moment to post much, but I'll begin with this little shot from my youngest son's birthday party this past week.

And with that, let the games begin!

Thanks for hosting POTW again Pentaximus.
Had about an hour or so yesterday, here are a few to begin with. Hopefully I'l get some more time, in what looks like it may be a less busy week ahead.
Been wanting to take a shot of this graffiti for a long time now, and not sure why. Maybe it reminds me of MJ. Or the sadness is quite evocative.

Lovely sliver of moon as the sun set.

And another Silhouette with that moon

and close by, one of Johannesburg's landmarks

Thanks for going another round Kevin,
A few with the Q/02 of the Mountain Laurel blooming on the hike yesterday and a companion deciding she needed to take a fully extended break at mile 5.5 of 5.6. K-01 for the cemetery and the USGS flood surveying crew's electronic readings vessel(which failed due to the turbulence) and the 150 lb vintage anchor that was brought out with a rolling winch to drop from the bridge (which did work.)

Amazing graffiti. There's so much to study in that one.

This is very nice with the paired curves of the moon and building! What is that building?

And I hope all had a good mother's day. Mine was quite busy, so maybe tomorrow I'll have some more photos to share! Love this one, Tom.

Oh, I love the uniforms posing with the planes! Are those your kids? Looks like a fun vacation that my boys would've loved.

That dog has quite a sense of timing! And gee whiz, how many cameras do you have now?!?!

Church Spire, or clock tower I suppose. The church was sold and converted to a normal house. Here is another pic, showing the clocks, two of the clocks have had their "hands" removed. Blinds put up, and I seem to think the balcony was added so that the view from there can be enjoyed. Fantastic views from there. A bit sad for me to see, as I have been to quite a few services in this church between 2002-2008. But financial constraints dictated that it be sold.

Some very striking images already this week..

It was wet on Saturday, so I spent an hour in a Butterfly Farm to get out of the rain (hail)...

Hand held with the DA 50-135.

Thanks for hosting again pentaximus.

I was going to wait a bit until I process more photos but I'm too excited about this one Experimenting with light painting and took a bunch of shots with my K-5. However, the last shot I took with Q and 02 won my heart.

Two receptionists to welcome customers at our local framing, glass, and paint store this afternoon. A local beekeeper is sharing some fresh banana bread and honey butter. Why some B&M's are worth it.

Thanks for the interesting backstory, Noel. A house now? Wow.

Add your butterfly to the list! A sharp shot.

I can see why! Very nice! It looks like a movie set to me.

Yes, I could handle a banana-bread-and-honey-butter based economy.

Nice remnants! I like the boy in the green pants in the lasso shot. And a great "pose" you caught with that dancer!

I'll have some more to post this evening. Off to work!

Thanks to everyone for posting the excellent photos in this week's thread.
Here are several of the many photos I captured in the front yard with a K-x and 100mm Pentax lens. I sometimes also used a Raynox 150.
Comments and suggestions are most welcome — by e-mail or Personal Message if you prefer not to comment in this thread. Thanks!

Very, very nice, Stuart! These looked good on my phone, but great here on my computer. Exquisite water drops.

Finally, I've gotten a few things together here. This is the only thing that redeems Chuck E. Cheese's in my view... SKEE BALL!

Here's my niece inspecting my mom's photos during our Mother's Day gathering. The camera she's holding is a Fujifilm bridge model (HS30, maybe?).

The remaining shots are from my mom's garden. She is excited that this "bottlebrush" bloomed for the first time this year.

And some black and white work:

Thanks for all this week's contributions so far, and if you're lurking in the shadows afraid to dip your toe in the water... Come on! Jump in! What are you waiting for?
