POTW #270 - 09 June through 23 June 2013
Posted By: mecrox, 06-16-2013, 02:34 AM

Welcome to another round of Picture of the Week. This is edition #270 covering 09 June through 23 June 2013.

POTW is a great spot to show off any shots you take in the upcoming week, or last week that you haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

Same rules:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) 5 or less images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big.
3) Any Pentax or Samsung camera, film or digital.

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Here are the records of previous POTW threads:

Thanks for hosting Mecrox!

I've been absent here for a few weeks... This morning I went to a traveling spay/neuter clinic in a town called Arraijan just west of the Panama Canal. There were probably more than 100 dogs and cats being neutered in a very efficient assembly-line process. Lots of kids and pets--hard not to get any keepers with that combination! These were all taken with my K-5. The operating table was with my 15mm Ltd and the others with my Pentax-F 50mm f1.4. Some pretty awful cloning in the operating table and girl w/dog photos (don't look too closely). I had to erase the leg of the girl's mom from her picture. Wish I'd gotten focus on both dog and girl...

She's as adorable as ever, @wolfiegirl. There's a huge Ikea an hour from here, so vast it's very easy to get lost in it.

Wow, that is some dedication, @nosliwmit. It's real documentary photography, esp. in the second shot which shows it how it is. The mutt in the first shot is looking a little worried to my eye, but then the puppy in the final picture is just so cute. I haven't seen the cloning, honest.

Good of you to host again Mecrox.

Here is are a couple I shot around campus the last couple of days. All three shot with the K-2000.
The Moon was shot with the Opteka 650-1300mm using a "Blanket" tripod on the hood of the car. Not real happy with the quality of the shot but it is the best moon shot I've gotten yet. Can't wait for a full moon to try it out again maybe at a couple of different focal lengths.

The other two were shot with the Pentax 50-200mm lens.
The reflection of the fountain in the glass is what I was trying for. Need to work on the composition of it but did manage to get the reflection.

The cloud formation I happened to come across. Looked like a llama to me.

A common theme...

Good to see your shot, @arnold. Those old film colours, so atmospheric. I should have kept my old film-era SLR (a Nikon FE2), whatever it had was magic.

Thanks for your shots, @Alkazalsir. I've no experience at all of trying to photography the moon. Your shot looks pretty good to me, blanket or no. I mean, you can see craters et al. I Googled to see what the Opteka was - what a mighty beast indeed.

Beautiful colours and DOF in @SpecialK's cool set and equally rich colours in @Eberbachl's set too from Melbourne. Wowee, I must get out more and try some night photography, it always looks so atmospheric especially imho in your great shot of the tram, so many colours in that.

Those are amazing captures, @Spezialize. I've never been anywhere like that myself. I hope you had or are having an amazing time. It's a lovely animal and must have been pretty trusting to allow you to come close. Cute, really, and full of rich colours. I saw a clip on TV here the other night which showed a golden eagle chasing a mountain hare, similarly coloured and mid moult, they said. The eagle was much faster than the hare but the hare could turn on a sixpence and jinked away just in time, leaving the eagle to crash land and no dinner. So the match is pretty even.

@nosliwmitz - wow, the photo of the surgeries with the tongue lolling out... my two are pound dogs and also got neutered. it's a bit confronting seeing it done, even if it's on other dogs! i'm amazed they let you in to document!

Thanks mecrox Yes, I had to ask directions in order to find the high chair. The map was useles..

@SpecialK
- love the bokeh on your shot! bright and dreamy!

@Spezialize
- That is sooo cool!!!!

In the theme of wildlife, this is what we saw out the window this morning. Sorry about the quality. Had to shoot through the window, as I was worried if I walked outside they'd skadaddle. My editing skills aren't up to scratch this morning and I don't have the time/patience to fix it atm as I have a full day in town today.

Mecrox, Thanks. The Opteka is a beast. Not the best lens as far as clarity and all. Kind of hard to focus too, but it was "free" so I won't complain. (You get what you pay for).

Spezialize, What a pretty bunny. Love the artic hare, and yours looks like he was posing for you.

Wolfie, the little one is very cute. I miss those cute years. My three are getting older (4, 6 and 10) and while still cute, they don't have as many of those "cute" shots anymore.
Also love the wildlife shots. Love shooting wildlife. Get some of the most interesting opportunities.

Special K. Great "strings" shots. The colors are very vibrant.

Eberbachi, Melbourne looks like a fun place. Lots of great night life. Things are kind of dead around here after dark.

Nosliwmit, First doggie looks a little worried. suppose he got wind of what was in store?

Thanks Alkazalsir. I know what you mean. We're soaking up the cuteness as much as we can. Nothing brings strangers to you like a newborn/baby. Went to wolfieboy's work today and they all cooed and ahhed over her, and fought to hold her. I was standing there thinking, gee.... bet they don't do the same if I brought her in when she's 5...

Thanks for hosting mecrox.

A couple of mine from the past few days.

Went to Oklahoma a couple of days ago, watched a female Scissor Tailed Flycatcher scolding me...taken with K30 and Vivitar 200mm M42

Finally had to go back to the trailer and grab the 50mm, because I eventually found her nest. She wasn't around but I kept hearing a chirp..sounded just like her and I followed the sound until I finally located the nest, the youngsters were chirping...I thought she was hiding somewhere still scolding me...SMC Pentax A 50mm

Another one shot with the A 50mm, couldn't pass up this dragonfly. It sat there while I went inside and swapped lenses, then let me get a foot away to grab a few shots. Flew away and landed back on the clothespin 3 or 4 times too...
