#248 Surreal
Posted By: timreeves, 06-21-2013, 10:45 AM

It was my first entry last week and it seemed to go rather well, so that apparently means it's my choice of theme this week, I'm new to the more creative side of this board, it's nice to be welcomed with open arms

The theme this week is "Surreal". Interpret it as you wish, use it as an excuse to go nuts on the more fun sliders and crops in Lightroom or capture a moment that you feel doesn't quite seem normal!

The Challenge will close on Friday, June 28, 11:59 PM, MDT

The rules are as follows:

1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread. If it's not obvious, explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme.
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge closes after 7 days, then allows for a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera will do.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, the winner will PM the #2 winner and pass the baton to that person to be the judge.

This is one the last pictures I took on my new K-01 before it died prematurely :-(

Any guesses on what this is?! Backstory after the break.

K-01 [DA40mm xs]

We were driving back home after a fun day at the beach when I noticed a huge lawn full of New Holland farm equipment. Our toddler is in love with machinery of all sorts so we asked the grumpy man at the desk if we can walk around and take a look. He waved as if he was saying "As long as you don't bother me" and off we went.

I actually don't know what this equipment does! If you recognize it, I'd love to hear more. They had a lot of these that looked liked a beautiful array of metal sunflowers. These two looked entangled in an eternal battle :-)

For some reason, sunflowers always remind me of hippies and the 70s hence the vintage look.

It's a hay rake. The name implies it's use

You drive it across a hay field after the hay has been cut and dried and this will put your hay in nice little rows for you.... then you hook up the bailer and drive down the row you just raked up.

Ghosts of Cadillac Mountain

Always thought this one turned out a little on the surreal side.

This was somehow an accident while doing long eposures on a moving walkway.
For me it is the impression one could get while moving constantly being tired from traveling...

Tomorrow starts the surreal series "Under the Dome" based on a book by Stephen King. This picture is of a rainbow and to make it look surreal all the editing was done in the K5 with its filter options.--charliezap

I don't have a lot of surreal images, I guess this one comes close. This is actually close to a "natural" image. I own the older Tamron 90mm macro, the one without the "optimized for digital" lens coatings. It seems that under certain conditions (low angle light, relatively cold, and high humidity) it will "see" rainbows. They don't show up in the VF, only after you've opened the image. I did some slight PP work to enhance the "raibow", it was fainter in the original image, but thats all I did.

NaCl(I have several of these "rainbows" but this is the best of the lot)H2O

Just a "little" Susan?
