POTW #271 - 16 June through 30 June 2013
Posted By: mecrox, 06-22-2013, 11:42 PM

Welcome to another round of Picture of the Week. This is edition #271 covering 16 June through 30 June 2013.

POTW is a great spot to show off any shots you take in the upcoming week, or last week that you haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

Same rules:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) 5 or less images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big.
3) Any Pentax or Samsung camera, film or digital.

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Here are the records of previous POTW threads:

Hi folks, I hope you have a great week wherever you live and are able to share with us the world through your eyes.

Just a couple from earlier in the week:

I spent yesterday at Harcourt Arboretum a few miles away helping to hang a photo exhibition which a local group of us are
putting on to chime with the Arboretum's 50th anniversary of becoming part of the university:

Thanks for hosting, mercox! Already a lot of great images here. I especially like your second image, mecrox and your firework shot, Tom.

With two small kids, a dissertation to finish and having to find a job there sadly wasn't much time for photography in the past weeks. But yesterday I managed to get out and take some night shots. I'm still selecting and processing the images from this photo session, so some more might follow.

Great set, xjjohnno, inc. the one-legged duck which I love (as the famous koan asks, What's the difference between a one-legged duck?). We have pretty different birds over here, and none of those stately pelicans or that distinctively marked fellow in your last shot.

Your first shot is a real humdinger, ramseybuckeye, such fun. Looks like you are enjoying some really summery times over there, all those rich greens and yellows.

SpecialK gets to great places I've only come near on television Greystone looks a lovely venue and the colours in the shot of the turltes and koi are wonderful, ditto the visit to Hollywood.

That's a strong atmospheric scene, Runegutt123, looks like your new lens with its WR was made for it.

More later. ...

First shot was taken from the road. They were trying to get the hay in before the storm came in.
second shot was a bunny I scared up while mowing the yard. Poor little thing was about the size of a man's fist.
Third shot was the moon from Saturday night. Didn't get a chance to get it last night.

After being laid up for 10 weeks, I celebrated with a week long trip to the 2013 Christian Motorcyclists Assoc National rally in Fryeburg, Maine. I was a little rusty with the camera but I'm pretty steady on my feet now. I have nearly 1000 shots to go through and the PP will keep me busy for a while. All shot with a K5.

A little past sunset but I kept the camera pretty steady.

My friend Marty cleaning the morning dew off his bike and the DA 15 doing what it does best.

While everybody keeps getting bigger and bigger bikes, my friend Frank brought along his 1967 Honda Trail 90 with his dog riding on the luggage rack.

Amazing start to the week, the posts are coming in faster than I can manage!

That is a really lovely, dream-like shot, David, time off from your busy life well spent, I hope!

Well spotted, iabc_lazy, it's a strong composition made doubly so by the light falling just perfectly on the woman and then throwing off that shadow below. Wow.

Very interesting to see your first shot, Alkazalsir. The countryside looks pretty similar round here - fields and woods - and it is haymaking time, too, but everything is on a smaller scale - there'd be a small truck or tractor/trailer rather than that big rig. The second shot of the bunny is sooo cute. Cloud kept the moon hidden on Saturday and Sunday nights here, so it's great that it was clear where you are and you've been able to photograph it.

Welcome to POTW, Chris_blg! Those are lovely shots of blossom with the rich colours and soft backgrounds. It's such a great time of year for photography, imho.

A great set, reeftool, glad you are back on the road. A friend of mine is a member of a similar biking Assoc. here and would have loved that get-together. The shot of your friend and his dog-carrier is an absolute hoot, very memorable. The DA 15mm does great starbursts doesn't it, and that bike of Marty's is a looker, very classic. Looks like everyone had fab weather for the occasions.

And another classic from Stephen, I love the feeling of speed and power in the shot, with the driver standing just-so in the cab.

Excellent shot, really well composed and perfectly executed. I've had the lens for 11 months now and am more impressed by it all the time, hopefully I can hone my skills with it and get results that good.

Thanks David, that is an excellent phot, gret timing to get the moonlight on the swans. It's like a dreamscape.

Making hay sure ain't what it used to be, but I've seen a few farmers actually make old fashioned small bales last week. I had planned to get that moon Saturday night. When I bough the tickets for the soccer game (where I shot the fireworks) Ticketmaster had the seating diagram reversed, I thought I bought tickets for the South west corner upper deck, they were actually in the opposite corner so I didn't get to see the moon rise. Moonrise would have happened about the start of the second half and it would have been in the background of the fireworks. Then last night was too cloudy.
