P52-5-27: Colour — Colourful
Posted By: Tsukiouji, 07-01-2013, 07:37 AM

This could be the toughest colour challenge so far. What I would like to see: Triadic, Tetradic and Square Color Harmonies, et cetra.

(Photos for the Week #27 competition are to be taken between Jul 1, 2013 and Jul 7, 2013.)

Rules
1. Anyone and everyone who is interested in eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-5 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by non Pentax cameras are allowed.
Cameras may be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot, Medium Format, et cetera.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is
active to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from thread start date to listed closing date is acceptable.

Flower arrangement with a difference

Square Colour Harmony

After looking at the colour wheel I wrote down the colour harmonies I wanted to work with, which were bright yellow, dark orange/red, dark purple and a light blue/teal. I then took a walk around my garden and picked some yellow sundrops (primrose), orange hawkweed, wild purple irises with yellow stripes and a handful of light blue forget-me-nots with little yellow centres. I made a flower arrangement in a wine glass and stared at it for awhile not knowing what to do next... I suck at still life. So I decided to pair up my colour pallet with an unlikely mate, the only pin-wheel crystal I own in the form of a bowl. I filled the bowl with water and put it on my picnic table, placed the flower arrangement in behind it, waited for the sun and started shooting close ups with my Tamron 90 macro, ranging from f/2.8 to f/8. I got some pretty funky, otherworldly and totally amazing results. Here is a "tame" one that I am entering for this weeks challenge.

This is tough! I've got triadic color profiles but none with isosceles triangles!

Tetradic

It has rained solid for the last three and a half days It finally quit this morning. I got a chance to get out and found a few things that fit the challenge today. I wasn't happy with any of them. coming in from taking some of the Grand sons out to dinner. I saw their sidewalk chalk in a bucket in the garage. I thought maybe an abstract. I saw my old DL sitting there looking sad and neglected with an FA 35-80 on it This is what I got.
Here is my submission for the week

I agree, this is a tough challenge and not even sure I understand these colour combinations. This one I think qualifies. If not, I'm gonna see a ... shrink.

You've all done very well in this tough contest. I'll be tied up until this afternoon, so I'll leave this open until noon EST. So if you have a shot taken in the time period but haven't posted it yet, now's your chance! I'll post winners late today. Thanks to everyone who's entered!
