Welcome to another round of Picture of the Week. This is edition #275 covering 28 July through 11 August 2013.

POTW is a great spot to show off any shots you take in the upcoming week, or last week that you haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

Aaaallllright! So I'm hosting again (and late I might add ) because I forgot to recruit a new host. A couple days ago my family and I drove from our home at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas to Yosemite National Park in California. We'll be living here in the Yosemite Valley for the next month as my wife is doing a rotation here as the resident doctor in the Yosemite health clinic. With all the craziness of moving a months worth of stuff, 3 young kids, and settling into one of the most beautiful places in the world, my host duties kinda took a back seat. Sorry! All of my pics where processed in camera (K5 IIs) because I am without my computer and any post processing software. Also I've hijacked my neighbor's wifi to make this post
I promise I'll do better getting a new host in a couple weeks.

That mask is great. Is it as striking in real life as it is in your pic? And those blown glass flowers look a lot like the ones in the ceiling just inside the main entrance of the Bellagio in Vegas. I wonder if they are by the same artist?

It did stick out and make me take a picture of it, but the contrast of it against the black background didn't look like that in person. I brought the blacks down in photoshop a bit to achieve that, maybe boosted the contrast some too. Those blown glass flowers on the window were just screaming to be taken a picture of. I'm not sure of the artist, but I can tell you that this was at the Dallas Museum of Art.

Your street shot with the woman on the bike is stellar! I love it. And I don't quite know if I'm looking at a painting or a photograph or both when I look at those flowers.

Amazing light there, ramseybuckeye. I guess something about some places draws one back time and again, well it does for me anyway.

I love the sets from jbsg02 and jheu02, particularly the glass flowers and the reflections on the building which look like a painting. And also Papa Lazarou's sunset and reeftool's cool sunrises.

I've been riding around on my bike the past few days with the A series 50mm, with and without binocular lens rig. And walking around the yard of course...







And something I don't do often, set up the K30 on a tripod...sit off to the side with a wireless remote, 50mm mounted and wait for the hummers...it takes a few shots before they settle down, first couple of tries they fly away so quick I get them turning to go, then they decide it's OK and they stick around and mostly ignore the shutter when it clicks. thing is they're so fast, when the camera stops down the hear it and turn to leave so fast I got a half dozen shots of them turning to go...all motion blur...Here's what I get after they decide it's OK...

Those are great images, Paleo Pete. I love the one of the hummingbird - we have nothing so small and delicate here, I think. You're about the third person on this thread who's been "riding around" on a bike. I think I ought to get one. Clearly a guarantee of great photography!
