#254 Nobody At the Park
Posted By: Paleo Pete, 08-13-2013, 08:49 AM

I had no idea what to do for this week's challenge, I'm normally into wildlife photography and wanted to step outside my usual style. So I looked around and there was an empty playground not far away and that was it. Most of the time when you see pictures of parks and playgrounds, you see kids everywhere...so let's make it a bit tougher. NO people, just the park. This can be a city park, school playground, theme park, but no people in it, show us the park itself.

Rules are as follows:

1. Post one photo (max 1024 X 1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3.Post your single photo in this thread. If it's not obvious, explain what motivated you to submit the photo and how you feel it represents the weekly theme.
4.The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5.The judge will pick the winner, who will then host and judge the next week's challenge.
6.The challenge closes after seven days. This allows a day for the judge to pick the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung) DSLR is acceptable.
8. Photos can be from any time frame, not just the week of the current challenge.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge of the next week's challenge, the winner will PM the #2 winner and pass on the baton to that person to host and judge the next week's challenge.

Previous Weeks: 214 - Physical Strain, 215 - The Daily Grind, 216 - Colours of Nature, 217 - Heavy Industry, 218 - Wisdom, 219 - Surprise, 220 - Blue, 221 - Vanishing Point, 222 - Motion, 223 - Juxtaposition, 224 - Metals, 225 - Firelight, 226 - The (Not so) Mundane, 227 - Angles, 228 - Theatre, 229 - Does Not Belong, 230 Breaking the Rules, 231 - Cold as Ice, 232 - Selective Colour, 233 - The Dark Side, 234 - Repetition, 235 - Dramatic Angles, 236 - Dramatic Skies, 237 - Colour and Contrast, 238 The Human Shadow, 239 - Nature Does Have It's Casualties, 240 - A Working Class Hero, 241 - Wild Spaces, 242 - Old, Ancient, Antique, 243 - Wired, 244 - Reflections, 245 - Bridging the Gap, 246 - The Thin Slice, 247 - Upside Down , 248 - Surreal, 249 - Grounded, 250 - Gold, 251 - The Earth's Bones, #252 - Water, #253 Fog or Mist

To get you started:

I only have a couple of examples, and only one is available to post so this should give you the idea

A rather famous park - Disneyland in Anaheim, California. View of the Matterhorn at night.

Such a melancholy theme. First fog, now lonely parks.

National Park--Saugus Iron Works

The park is only 2 miles from home and I was the only person there early in the morning. This place was the first successful iron works in this country in the 1600's--charliezap

Mine is from the Park where I photograph my herons, and egrets. It's a place where we honor those brave men who fought in past wars. Aptly called Veterans Park.

A local park at midday. School is back in session so the place is empty. This was taken during a photo shoot while we were walking back to the van.

I am at that age between young children and grandchildren that a lone man with a camera would not dream of taking pictures of a playground with children present!

Great theme! I actually have a bunch of empty playground/lonely boardwalk shots, but I decided to go with this one. Orchard Beach is one of NYC's busiest parks especially in the summer, so busy that they need a separate area (supervised) for lost kids; but wintertime is a different story. Something about the lonely picnic table and the crooked sign intrigued me so I snapped the shot.

NaCl(I think it's the crooked sign that makes this shot)H2O
