# 258 The Moon as an Element
Posted By: ramseybuckeye, 09-16-2013, 07:42 PM

Thanks to Mike L for hosting last week's "Car" challenge and welcome to this week's weekly challenge - The Moon as an Element;

Your picture should have the/a moon in it, or be related some way, but not just a picture of the moon. I chose this category because it's something I like to do and there just happens to be a full moon this week. But your photo does not have to be from this week. By the way challenge number 169 back in June 2011 was the moon theme. Be creative and shoot for the moon!

This challenge will run from today September 16 through Monday September 23 midnight GMT.

Rules are as follows:

1. Post one photo (max 1024 X 1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3.Post your single photo in this thread. If it's not obvious, explain what motivated you to submit the photo and how you feel it represents the weekly theme.
4.The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5.The judge will pick the winner, who will then host and judge the next week's challenge.
6.The challenge closes after seven days. This allows a day for the judge to pick the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung) DSLR is acceptable.
8. Photos can be from any time frame, not just the week of the current challenge.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge of the next week's challenge, the winner will PM the #2 winner and pass on the baton to that person to host and judge the next week's challenge.

Previous Weeks: 215 - The Daily Grind, 216 - Colours of Nature, 217 - Heavy Industry, 218 - Wisdom, 219 - Surprise, 220 - Blue, 221 - Vanishing Point, 222 - Motion, 223 - Juxtaposition, 224 - Metals, 225 - Firelight, 226 - The (Not so) Mundane, 227 - Angles, 228 - Theatre, 229 - Does Not Belong, 230 Breaking the Rules, 231 - Cold as Ice, 232 - Selective Colour, 233 - The Dark Side, 234 - Repetition, 235 - Dramatic Angles, 236 - Dramatic Skies, 237 - Colour and Contrast, 238 The Human Shadow, 239 - Nature Does Have It's Casualties, 240 - A Working Class Hero, 241 - Wild Spaces, 242 - Old, Ancient, Antique, 243 - Wired, 244 - Reflections, 245 - Bridging the Gap, 246 - The Thin Slice, 247 - Upside Down , 248 - Surreal, 249 - Grounded, 250 - Gold, 251 - The Earth's Bones, 252 - Water, 253 - Fog or Mist, 254 - Nobody At The Park. 255 - Music, 256 - In camera movement 256 - Cars

Took this one from the front yard. Used a Pentax 500mm lens - it's an old cheap manual focus lens I found on eBay a few years ago. Coupled it with a 2x tele convertor. Took a long time to get the focus and to steady the lens and the camera - they both just kept slipping, no natter how tight I locked down the tripod. Decent result though.

I upload my first photo at any contest, so please be nice

It is a nightly photo I took from a canyon near my home town, during the Perseids shower. I like the colors and the sensation that brings me this photo

Hi Aras2002 and Dfromal

The contest has been closed, judged and the winner announced already. Sorry, these Weekly competitions usually have closing times. Super shots from the both of you, but they are too late. If I may make a suggestion, post them to the Photo of the Week thread here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/weekly-photo-challenges/237723-picture-we...er-2013-a.html.

Thanks. I did see the closing time. I wasn't trying to win the contest - just wanted to share my moon shot.
