POTW #288 3rd November - 17th November
Posted By: wolfiegirl, 11-10-2013, 01:39 AM

Welcome to another round of Picture of the Week. This is edition #288 covering 27 October to 10th November 2013.

POTW is a great spot to show off any shots you take in the upcoming week, or last week that you haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) 5 or less images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big.
3) Any Pentax or Samsung camera, film or digital.

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM. Here are the records of previous POTW threads: 1 Peter Zack, 2 Eaglerapids, 3 rmtagg, 4 Peter Zack, 5 daacon, 6 Bramela, 7 mtnbearhug, 8 dantuyhoa, 9 gawan,10 roentarre, 11 daacon, 12 Kris, 13 mtnbearhug, 14 SCGushue, 15 daacon, 16 maxwell1295, 17 dantuyhoa, 18 daacon, 19 maxwell1295, 19(2) daacon, 20 Bramela, 21 Syb, 22 maxwell1295, 23 maxwell1295, 24 dantuyhoa, 25 Gawan, 26 Peter Zack, 27 borno, 28 daacon, 29 gawan, 30 Damn Brit, 31 maxwell1295, 32 maxwell1295, 33 dantuyhoa, 34 daacon, 35 Peter Zack, 36 Damn Brit, 37 Borno, 38 Kevint, 39 Peter Zack, 40 Timbo13, 41 daacon, 42 daacon, 43 gawan, 44 dantuyhoa, 45 daacon, 46 Rense, 47 daacon, 48 Rense, 49 borno, 50 Rense, 51 daacon, 52 Peter Zack, 53 Peter Zack, 54 dadipentax, 55 David Whiteley, 56 planedriver, 57 daacon,58 Bramela, 59 daacon, 60 gawan, 61 virgilr, 62 daacon, 63 RickL, 64 Peter Zack, 65 Peter Zack, 66 Causey, 67 daacon, 68 Bramela, 69 georgeweb, 70 daacon,71 seacapt, 72 daacon, 73 AOski, 74 Rense, 75 eccs19, 76 daacon, 77 xs400, 78 daacon, 79 Bramela, 80 Borno, 81 legacyb4, 82 daacon, 83 gawan, 84 Rense, 85 Peter Zack, 86 davef, 87 davef, 88 xjjohnno, 89 Bramela, 90 Peter Zack, 91 daacon, 92 stevebrot, 93 reeftool, 94 jezza323, 95 oldschool, 96 Iris, 97 Rense, 98 planedriver, 99 xs400, 100 Peter Zack, 101 Netuser, 102 Photolady, 103 Tamia, 104 Irishwhite, 105 Ramseybuckeye, 106 xjjohnno, 107 Bumbibop, 108 JeffJS, 109 Tpeace, 110 Nomad, 111 Photolady, 112 rparmar, 113 Peter Zack, 114 casil403, 115 Tamia , 116 JeffJS, 117 bbluesman, 118 Clou, 119 ruggiex, 120 Jimbow007, 121 jmschrie, 122 VaughnA , 123 pop4, 124 casil403, 125 woof, 126 twitch, 127 stevebrot, 128 ohce, 129 jmschrei, 130 photolady, 131 photolady, 132 bbluesman, 133 rparmar, 134 reeftool, 135 reeftool, 136 Oldschool, 137 xjjohonno, 138 KarenH , 139 Rense, 140 daacon, 141 Tamia, 142 JeffJS, 143 bbluesman, 144 fotaki, 145 fotaki, 146 Woof, 147 Bramela, 148 Bramela, 149 Tamia, 150 Nomad, 151 Clou, 152 drugal, 153 rparmar, 154 Nomad, 155 jmschrei, 156 noelcmn, 157 noelcmn, 158 rwfarnell, 159 ramseybuckeye, 160 christophleipzig, 161 JeremytheIndian, 162 SpecialK, 163 emetcalf, 164 emetcalf, 165 stevebrot, 166 rparmar, 167 Mattt, 168 JeffJS, 169 jmschrei, 170 fotaki, 171 xs400, 172 TOUGEFC, 173 TOUGEFC, 174 Warped, 175 MaryAD, 176 Davidw0815, 177 baro-nite, 178 baro-nite, 179 pentaximus, 180 lukulele, 181 lukulele, 182 rob 1234, 183 lukulele, 184 lukulele, 185 pentaximus, 186 ramseybuckeye, 187 ramseybuckeye, 188 StDevious, 189 Free Soul, 190 Clou, 191 brvnara, 192 pentaximus, 193 Noelcmn, 194 Noelcmn 195 GmcarsMAN, 196 jmschreii,197 wolfiegirl, 198 xjjohnno, 199 Arn , 200 Peter Zack, 201 bluestringer, 202 cif, 203 Rollsup, 204 noelcm, 205 Davidw0815, 206 Davidw0815, 207 cif, 208 ramseybuckeye, 209 paulh, 210 Oldschool, 211 SpecialK, 212 mecrox, 213 pentaximus, 215 bramela, 216 jmschrei, 217 Exandr, 218 Noelcmn, 219 Noelcmn, 220 sergiu, 221 sergiu, 222 sergiu, 223 sergiu, 224 sergiu, 225 sergiu, 226 sergiu, 227 sergiu, 228 Davidw08, 229 reeftool, 230 reeftool, 231 cif, 232 mecrox, 233 mecrox, 234 glennbp, 235 glennbp, 236 pentaximus, 237 pentaximus, 238 pentaximus,239 Paul, 240 Nick Nero, 241 Arnold, 242 Arnold, 243 Arnold, 244 Arnold, 245 Nick Nero, 246 ramseybuckeye, 247 ramseybuckeye, 248 Douge, 249 Douge 250 Douge, 251 Dr Orloff, 252 lukulele, 253 lukulele, 254 nosliwmit, 255 nosliwmit, 256 nosliwmit, 257 casil403, 258 casil403, 259 Davidw0815, 260 Davidw0815, 261 ruggiex, 262 ruggiex, 263 mecrox, 264 pentaximus, 265 pentaximus, 266 SpecialK, 267 SpecialK, 268 filoxophy, 269 mecrox, 270 mecrox, 271 mecrox, 272 Paleo Pete, 273 Paleo Pete, 274 geomez, 275 geomez, 276 geomez, 277 mecrox, 278 mecrox, 279 mecrox, 280 Noelcmn, 281 Noelcmn, 282 Noelcmn, 283 Noelcmn, 284 Noelcmn, 285Alkazalsir, 286 StephenHampshire, 287 StephenHampshire, 288 wolfiegirl

Last week's POTW for reference: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/129-weekly-photo-challenges/241565-weekly...-november.html

I am your friendly host this week, and will try my best to restrain myself from daily postings of wolfiepup.

And in that vein, to start us off, here are the subjects that used to take up all my photography days before wolfiepup came along. My two wolfhounds, who are staring morosely at wolfiepup who is giggling away out of frame with wolfieboy. My poor puppies. They used to be the apple of my eye, and now are just....

The dogs do look rather wistful....

One from Cannock Chase, a local woodland. You can't tell from the image but it was raining quite hard..

I hope you don't mind if I join this thread. Here are two shots I took thinking I might use them for the P-52 challenge 'Glass,' but I went with something else.

Wolfie, I sure won't complain about daily Wolfiepup pics. Love seeing that beautiful smile. The way she smiles with the eyes is just too precious.

Dave, Beautiful . Can't tell it's in the rain. They really are attentive to you though.

Steve, nice yard shot. Makes a person wonder what they are carrying and where they are headed.
And is that a Rhode Island Red? Great close-up.

Tess, Welcome to the club. Any and all are welcome. Like that first shot, the snow and twigs give it some context and depth. Very nice pic.

Bambi! Super cool that they really *do* look like that! I've only encountered deer while driving. NOT fun at 8pm at night when all you see is a deer outlined by headlights. Luckily it was fast enough that it got away. If it hadn't, despite my brake slamming both of us wouldn't have made it.

Wow Stephen. That tammy is sharp, sharp, sharp! Please don't do that. It just makes my LBA flare up! And no amount of potions or lotions will fix it. I'm only just recovering from another round of CBA.. *shudder*

Also enjoyed your train pics. The colours of those trains.... I don't know what it is. It brings up such a wonderful atmosphere. I know I've said it before, but it makes me think of children's picture books.

....

ok.

just for *curiousity's* sake mind you, how much will that 70-200 will set me back? Just ballpark figure.

Tessfully! Long time no see! Or at least, not by me anyway (like I can talk when I practically disappeared off the face of Pentax for over a year without a word... ). Hope you are well! Wonderful to see you here too and hope you will feel inspired enough to contribute again. Always love seeing other people's pictures! I really like the way you've rendered those two shots. What lens and software do you use?

You know, I've always wondered about the P-52 challenges. Is anyone allowed to join those? Or is it a bit like Singles In, where you commit to play at a certain time?

They had one a few weeks back that kind've inspired my LBA cull, when they suggested everyone use their non-favourite lens. You know, the one that just sits in the drawer and you never part with it, coz even though you hate it, it still comes up with some doozies every now and then and you just can't justify chucking it all together. It made me think about what I had and what I should chuck. I always meant to see if I could play but then the week was over already Time goes by so fast at the moment.

Awww.... I shall try to see what I can do. I did a batch yesterday but they didn't turn out so great. She's a fast mover, that one! Although... now that I think about it, I might have a few that I took on the k100d that I haven't processed yet. I only cleared out the k-01 pics yesterday. Will go and see what I can come up with.

Ok people, time to get out there and shoot some more!! I'd go and do the same but it's nasty weather out there and 6am with grey clouds and needle like rain is not exactly inspiring... (we shall ignore for the moment that Dave did just the thing and came back with a lovely Bambi shot) *much* better to stay cosy on the couch and look at everyone else's images.

WARNING - READING THIS MAY CAUSE LBA

Wolfie - the Tamron cost me £489 - from Amazon EU rather than the UK, the cheapest here from someone like SRS Microsystems (well known UK dealer, possibly the biggest Pentax stockist in the country) is £100 more....my Sigma 50-150f2.8 is unwell and I have always fancied the Tamron, it shoots close and is my answer to the DA*200f2.8 for now!! I've decided to skip a K3 for mthe moment and upgrade my glass, trouble is I can't quite seem to be able to sell any, I mean the Tamron 28-105 will be great on a Full Frame Pentax DSLR own't it! BTW the chicken shot was at 4000 iso on my K5

Alkasalzir (can I call you "Al"?) Pretty much RIR- what we call an ISA standard hen/warrens....when they were laying, got 300+ eggs a year, and one of our hens regularly laid 2.75-3 oz eggs! We raised them from 10 days old, now reduced from 5 to 2 and currently neither of the remaining brace are laying, but they are nearly 4 years old which I guess is old for those sort of super-layers bred for the battery market... we have a couple of newer hens 9speckeldy and a ??Black Rock??) which aren't as prolific and the eggs are smaller too

Thanks for taking on hosting duties Wolfiegirl-amid all the busyness of looking after Wolfiepup.

Some super pics already here-First Wolfiegirls now somewhat "neglected" first love, Dave lovely deer, Stephen's usually delightful train images, though that chicken is excellent too- its crisp- too good for crispy fried chicken. And those lovely ones from Tess- Glass is such a beautiful thing to capture and Tess you got it perfectly. BTW Tess, we only mind when you don't join the fun.

Had some time today and yesterday for a few hours and off I trundled. Like Tess, I was out looking for some glass for the Project 52 (BTW, its a fun challenge and gets the creative juices going-I recommend joining) and visited a Catholic Church in the hope of getting some stained glass windows. These are two of them:

Interior

Exterior

I like capturing the Graffiti around Johannesburg- Here's two that I also got yesterday.

Monkey business or Decor???

Imagine my shock when I saw a portrait of myself at a local art gallery. No laughing allowed-remember I have a fragile ego Some humor in order I think-first monkey business and then a self portrait.

I should get another batch processed for later this week.

Thanks for the warning Stephen. I braced myself before scrolling down.

500 pounds is waaay out of budget. Thank goodness!

I know what you mean about no one buying. I'm still struggling to clear all of my excess glass. At this stage I'm tempted to take it all back and try them all out (some of which I never actually did after purchase! Pentaxians and LBA tragics would *never* do that...

Am suitably chastened. I did end up finding some more pics this morning and in the midst of editing (didn't do the right WB with lighting. grrrr). So stay tuned, wolfiepup cuteness to come

I really like that first shot noel. The blue's really intense! Isn't it great when that kind of atmosphere makes it into the photo? So often we see something, try to capture it and fail. Or maybe it's just user error on my part..

Love the graffiti shots. So vibrant! Look forward to seeing more from you Noel. No pressure or anything...

Thanks for hosting wolfie girl, and nice start of those beautiful hounds, it is a big change for them when they lose some of the attention they are used to. You can see they are happy though, they have a good life now. By the way you can jump in those Project 52s anytime.

Beautiful shot in the rain Dave, those deer must be thinking, "wow, in this rain it must be a Pentax!"

Cool, especially the close up with all those little reflective bits, of course that one in the glass challenge is really cool!

I didn't know you were also a poultry expert! I'm hoping that Tamron will be my next lens. I won a photo contest and got a gift card from a camera store, they don't sell Pentax but they do sell Tamron. So I'm about a third of the way there with that, a third with selling some gear, but still got a ways to go.

Wow Noel, that's about as diverse a collection as you can get in one post, good stuff! I enjoys seeing the graffiti, especially when the artists are that talented, some nice work there.

Wow, those are not your ordinary Veterans Day photos, looks like it was a good time. Cool stuff, that flying wing had to be awesome to see in action.

It's interesting that in the POTY you see so many "extra" pics taken for the challenges, here's one of my extras for the "glass challenge:

These are from a walk in the woods this afternoon:

Thanks for hosting Wolfiegirl, good to see those two hounds again. Lots of wonderful entries already. I will confess that I have had little time or inspiration for photography lately especially when an early start to winter put an abrupt end to fall foliage opportunities. I did take a walk with the DA 10-17 yesterday though...

Thanks for hosting Wolfie. Blue Ridge Parkway top…… and below. Leaves are gone up topside but 1500 ft below… still muted but nice color.

StephenHampshire, thanks for the reply. You can call me what ever you want just as long as it isn't late for dinner.
Outstanding. ISA's are very good layers. They got the best of both worlds and make great producers. Not much on eating stock but some of the best eggs, especially free-range.
