POTW #290 17th November -1st December
Posted By: nosliwmit, 11-26-2013, 04:00 AM

Welcome to another round of Picture of the Week. This is edition #290 covering 17 November to 1 December 2013

POTW is a great spot to show off any shots you take in the upcoming week, or last week that you haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) 5 or less images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big.
3) Any Pentax or Samsung camera, film or digital.

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM. Here are the records of previous POTW threads: 1 Peter Zack, 2 Eaglerapids, 3 rmtagg, 4 Peter Zack, 5 daacon, 6 Bramela, 7 mtnbearhug, 8 dantuyhoa, 9 gawan,10 roentarre, 11 daacon, 12 Kris, 13 mtnbearhug, 14 SCGushue, 15 daacon, 16 maxwell1295, 17 dantuyhoa, 18 daacon, 19 maxwell1295, 19(2) daacon, 20 Bramela, 21 Syb, 22 maxwell1295, 23 maxwell1295, 24 dantuyhoa, 25 Gawan, 26 Peter Zack, 27 borno, 28 daacon, 29 gawan, 30 Damn Brit, 31 maxwell1295, 32 maxwell1295, 33 dantuyhoa, 34 daacon, 35 Peter Zack, 36 Damn Brit, 37 Borno, 38 Kevint, 39 Peter Zack, 40 Timbo13, 41 daacon, 42 daacon, 43 gawan, 44 dantuyhoa, 45 daacon, 46 Rense, 47 daacon, 48 Rense, 49 borno, 50 Rense, 51 daacon, 52 Peter Zack, 53 Peter Zack, 54 dadipentax, 55 David Whiteley, 56 planedriver, 57 daacon,58 Bramela, 59 daacon, 60 gawan, 61 virgilr, 62 daacon, 63 RickL, 64 Peter Zack, 65 Peter Zack, 66 Causey, 67 daacon, 68 Bramela, 69 georgeweb, 70 daacon,71 seacapt, 72 daacon, 73 AOski, 74 Rense, 75 eccs19, 76 daacon, 77 xs400, 78 daacon, 79 Bramela, 80 Borno, 81 legacyb4, 82 daacon, 83 gawan, 84 Rense, 85 Peter Zack, 86 davef, 87 davef, 88 xjjohnno, 89 Bramela, 90 Peter Zack, 91 daacon, 92 stevebrot, 93 reeftool, 94 jezza323, 95 oldschool, 96 Iris, 97 Rense, 98 planedriver, 99 xs400, 100 Peter Zack, 101 Netuser, 102 Photolady, 103 Tamia, 104 Irishwhite, 105 Ramseybuckeye, 106 xjjohnno, 107 Bumbibop, 108 JeffJS, 109 Tpeace, 110 Nomad, 111 Photolady, 112 rparmar, 113 Peter Zack, 114 casil403, 115 Tamia , 116 JeffJS, 117 bbluesman, 118 Clou, 119 ruggiex, 120 Jimbow007, 121 jmschrie, 122 VaughnA , 123 pop4, 124 casil403, 125 woof, 126 twitch, 127 stevebrot, 128 ohce, 129 jmschrei, 130 photolady, 131 photolady, 132 bbluesman, 133 rparmar, 134 reeftool, 135 reeftool, 136 Oldschool, 137 xjjohonno, 138 KarenH , 139 Rense, 140 daacon, 141 Tamia, 142 JeffJS, 143 bbluesman, 144 fotaki, 145 fotaki, 146 Woof, 147 Bramela, 148 Bramela, 149 Tamia, 150 Nomad, 151 Clou, 152 drugal, 153 rparmar, 154 Nomad, 155 jmschrei, 156 noelcmn, 157 noelcmn, 158 rwfarnell, 159 ramseybuckeye, 160 christophleipzig, 161 JeremytheIndian, 162 SpecialK, 163 emetcalf, 164 emetcalf, 165 stevebrot, 166 rparmar, 167 Mattt, 168 JeffJS, 169 jmschrei, 170 fotaki, 171 xs400, 172 TOUGEFC, 173 TOUGEFC, 174 Warped, 175 MaryAD, 176 Davidw0815, 177 baro-nite, 178 baro-nite, 179 pentaximus, 180 lukulele, 181 lukulele, 182 rob 1234, 183 lukulele, 184 lukulele, 185 pentaximus, 186 ramseybuckeye, 187 ramseybuckeye, 188 StDevious, 189 Free Soul, 190 Clou, 191 brvnara, 192 pentaximus, 193 Noelcmn, 194 Noelcmn 195 GmcarsMAN, 196 jmschreii,197 wolfiegirl, 198 xjjohnno, 199 Arn , 200 Peter Zack, 201 bluestringer, 202 cif, 203 Rollsup, 204 noelcm, 205 Davidw0815, 206 Davidw0815, 207 cif, 208 ramseybuckeye, 209 paulh, 210 Oldschool, 211 SpecialK, 212 mecrox, 213 pentaximus, 215 bramela, 216 jmschrei, 217 Exandr, 218 Noelcmn, 219 Noelcmn, 220 sergiu, 221 sergiu, 222 sergiu, 223 sergiu, 224 sergiu, 225 sergiu, 226 sergiu, 227 sergiu, 228 Davidw08, 229 reeftool, 230 reeftool, 231 cif, 232 mecrox, 233 mecrox, 234 glennbp, 235 glennbp, 236 pentaximus, 237 pentaximus, 238 pentaximus,239 Paul, 240 Nick Nero, 241 Arnold, 242 Arnold, 243 Arnold, 244 Arnold, 245 Nick Nero, 246 ramseybuckeye, 247 ramseybuckeye, 248 Douge, 249 Douge 250 Douge, 251 Dr Orloff, 252 lukulele, 253 lukulele, 254 nosliwmit, 255 nosliwmit, 256 nosliwmit, 257 casil403, 258 casil403, 259 Davidw0815, 260 Davidw0815, 261 ruggiex, 262 ruggiex, 263 mecrox, 264 pentaximus, 265 pentaximus, 266 SpecialK, 267 SpecialK, 268 filoxophy, 269 mecrox, 270 mecrox, 271 mecrox, 272 Paleo Pete, 273 Paleo Pete, 274 geomez, 275 geomez, 276 geomez, 277 mecrox, 278 mecrox, 279 mecrox, 280 Noelcmn, 281 Noelcmn, 282 Noelcmn, 283 Noelcmn, 284 Noelcmn, 285Alkazalsir, 286 StephenHampshire, 287 StephenHampshire, 288 wolfiegirl, 289 Bucfan1234, 290 Bucfan1234

Hi all. I'm taking the initiative to start this week's thread. Let's see what you've got!

I decided to post my starting photos in a separate entry to avoid having them repeat on every page...

Went to a beach hotel west of Panama City last weekend. Here's some of the local fauna... The mantis was very small (~1-inch). The last bird is a chachalaca. Not sure what variety. They're about the size of a large chicken.

Thanks for taking the initiative and stepping in to host Nosliwmit. Was about to myself, but better a Panamanian than a South African. I like very much that last one-what kind of bird is that, looks like a relative of a Loerie. And the 2nd too, looks positively from Jurassic Park.

Here are some from my week so far.

I occasionally dabble with B/W

Someone lost a ball

Egyptian Goose

President Place-Taken on a drive-by, had about a minute to take this one.

And some dramatic clouds from Sunday 17th.

ps, better change the dates in the first line with the welcome to.... it still has the dates for last weeks POTW. It caught me, as when I looked at it, I said, I can't post photos from the 17th- but then looked at the heading and that has the right dates.

Went for a walk today.. It was cold and dull, but the daytime TV is worse.

Thanks for hosting this week noswilmit. That second one is killer.

Love that ball on water shot, Noel!

And chipmunks/squirrels always do it for me, Dave. Makes me wish we had them here.

One more day before Internet Lag is OVER. Can't wait.

Have had a horror week with the wolfiepup. She refuses to sleep. When we do manage to get her asleep (cuddled up with us in bed or in our arms), the minute you put her down or walk away (like two steps towards the door) she starts howling. ARGGGGH!

So I am functioning on less than 100% at the moment. Probably closer to 50-60% capacity. Which is what made me pull the trigger on a Q last week....... It arrived yesterday. OMFG. I have never seen lenses so small....

I am now in trouble with wolfieboy. He just doesn't understand the pull of CBA. I did have a few moments of buyer's remorse as I went out on our walk yesterday afternoon, k-01 and Q in tow. But after wolfiepup and boy turned around and I grabbed the shot, I realised how wonderful it was to have a small wide angle camera/lens combo with me at all times, while my 'normal' camera did the heavy lifting. I never would have thought it, but the k-01 has some decent heft to it. It may be ergnomically questionable, but at least you know you're going to be shooting steady.

I also managed some shots with wolfiepup and her wolfies. Haven't processed those ones yet, but it's wonderful to finally have something wide enough to get her playing with them. Usually I have to back away quite a ways. Which I'd prefer not to. Despite my wolfies being gentle giants, I still feel better being close to the action. And I get the feeling my wolfies prefer me being there in case she gets too annoying for them. Elsie managed to get up and move elsewhere when wolfiepup got a little too rambunctious trying to grab her collar.

My next step is to see if I can sell off my k-x. In normal circumstances this wouldn't be a problem. But I dropped it when wolfiepup was born and there is now a crack in the lcd. Camera still functions fine, but I effectively reduced the value of that camera to 0. And there's no point keeping that, my k100d, the k-01 *and* the Q.... Something has to go. And I have too much sentimental value wrapped up in my k100d to let that go.

Ok, on to the pics.

Here is one taken with the Q, 20cm away from subject

Wolfiepup at dinner time. She doesn't seem impressed with the Q either..

And the rest taken with the Tamron 80-210 103a and the k-01

Here is the monster two mornings ago telling me what she thought of ricotta cheese on rye crackers

And some candid shots take while stalking her with the tamron 80-210 103a and the k-01. It's so hard to do because she moves so fast, and I can only swing that focus ring around so fast....

Certainly makes me treasure the in focus pictures a lot more, I'll tell you that!

Oh Wolfiegirl- those are just precious, and she is simply adorable. I like the crawling one best. And oh that biting the table! Super! Thanks for the weekly dose, now I can face the weekend better! Did I mention that she adorable- OK I just did. She's adorable! OOOPS . So sorry about restless Wolfiepup. Brought back fond, if not pleasant memories of raising my son at about the same age- tried as much as we can to get him to sleep-no luck. Grandpa (they the ones who knows these things) says- take him for a drive in the car-he'll soon be fast asleep. Of we chug on a 10km road trip, he's fast asleep after a few meters or so, get back home and he promptly wakes up again. Uhrrhggg. But hey! that's parenting. Now i'm waiting for the day that he'll be taking me on a road trip, fall asleep and viola-parental revenge

Thanks for the lovely words noel. They put a smile on my face. Something i really need at the moment. 2 weeks or so ago she just started battling sleep and it hasnt really stopped.

There have been some atrocious nights.

I know what you mean about the car. It happens to us too.

Am just praying it will end soon.

P.s. don't apologise abt the gushing. The more gushing there is the more likely i will post more pics.

Winter is a good time for sunsets on the California coast:

It was perfectly warm and still in Morro Bay.

Joel - the soccer ball (sorry, football) shot is fantastic. The combination of warm and cool colors really grabs the eye. Well spotted!

Wolfiegirl - Your penultimate photo is a frame-worthy beauty.

ChatMechant - Gorgeous sunset. I'm envious.

Pretty slow week for POTW. You'd think there's a holiday in some parts of the world or something. Pretty soon I expect to see photos of turkeys (cooked), pies and family gatherings.

Thanks, nosliwmit.

Haha, of course! That explains it. We don't do thanksgiving here either. So I was puzzled as to why this week is so slow.

Here's a few more of the munchkin taken over the week for Singles In.

I still haven't processed those ones of her with the wolfies. Not even sure they came out ok. Perhaps I can get around to them today. We shall see.

The last 2 weekends I only shot grave markers. I went out yesterday for a walk-around using just the 18-55WR in Av mode (f8).

Nosliwmit, Love the mantis pic. Great shot.
Noel, that sunset is amazing! Wonderful colors.
Dave, Squirrels are so much fun to watch. The tails are so expressive.
Noel, tell the wolf-pup I feel the same way about ricotta and rye. I only use ricotta for the lasagna.
ChatMechant - Great sunset shot. very nice colors.
Special K - Nice change from such grave subjects. Great angle on the gondola.

No turkey shots here. (Wish I could have shot one but didn't get a chance to go hunting). But here's a sundog I caught yesterday on the way home from the kinfolks.
