POTW #296 - 5th January to 19th January
Posted By: josh-fuggle, 01-06-2014, 02:54 AM

Welcome to another round of Picture of the Week. This is edition #296 covers 5th January to 19th January.

POTW is a great spot to show off any shots you take in the upcoming week, or last week that you haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) 5 or less images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big.
3) Any Pentax or Samsung camera, film or digital.

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Here are the records of previous POTW threads: 1 Peter Zack, 2 Eaglerapids, 3 rmtagg, 4 Peter Zack, 5 daacon, 6 Bramela, 7 mtnbearhug, 8 dantuyhoa, 9 gawan,10 roentarre, 11 daacon, 12 Kris, 13 mtnbearhug, 14 SCGushue, 15 daacon, 16 maxwell1295, 17 dantuyhoa, 18 daacon, 19 maxwell1295, 19(2) daacon, 20 Bramela, 21 Syb, 22 maxwell1295, 23 maxwell1295, 24 dantuyhoa, 25 Gawan, 26 Peter Zack, 27 borno, 28 daacon, 29 gawan, 30 Damn Brit, 31 maxwell1295, 32 maxwell1295, 33 dantuyhoa, 34 daacon, 35 Peter Zack, 36 Damn Brit, 37 Borno, 38 Kevint, 39 Peter Zack, 40 Timbo13, 41 daacon, 42 daacon, 43 gawan, 44 dantuyhoa, 45 daacon, 46 Rense, 47 daacon, 48 Rense, 49 borno, 50 Rense, 51 daacon, 52 Peter Zack, 53 Peter Zack, 54 dadipentax, 55 David Whiteley, 56 planedriver, 57 daacon,58 Bramela, 59 daacon, 60 gawan, 61 virgilr, 62 daacon, 63 RickL, 64 Peter Zack, 65 Peter Zack, 66 Causey, 67 daacon, 68 Bramela, 69 georgeweb, 70 daacon,71 seacapt, 72 daacon, 73 AOski, 74 Rense, 75 eccs19, 76 daacon, 77 xs400, 78 daacon, 79 Bramela, 80 Borno, 81 legacyb4, 82 daacon, 83 gawan, 84 Rense, 85 Peter Zack, 86 davef, 87 davef, 88 xjjohnno, 89 Bramela, 90 Peter Zack, 91 daacon, 92 stevebrot, 93 reeftool, 94 jezza323, 95 oldschool, 96 Iris, 97 Rense, 98 planedriver, 99 xs400, 100 Peter Zack, 101 Netuser, 102 Photolady, 103 Tamia, 104 Irishwhite, 105 Ramseybuckeye, 106 xjjohnno, 107 Bumbibop, 108 JeffJS, 109 Tpeace, 110 Nomad, 111 Photolady, 112 rparmar, 113 Peter Zack, 114 casil403, 115 Tamia , 116 JeffJS, 117 bbluesman, 118 Clou, 119 ruggiex, 120 Jimbow007, 121 jmschrie, 122 VaughnA , 123 pop4, 124 casil403, 125 woof, 126 twitch, 127 stevebrot, 128 ohce, 129 jmschrei, 130 photolady, 131 photolady, 132 bbluesman, 133 rparmar, 134 reeftool, 135 reeftool, 136 Oldschool, 137 xjjohonno, 138 KarenH , 139 Rense, 140 daacon, 141 Tamia, 142 JeffJS, 143 bbluesman, 144 fotaki, 145 fotaki, 146 Woof, 147 Bramela, 148 Bramela, 149 Tamia, 150 Nomad, 151 Clou, 152 drugal, 153 rparmar, 154 Nomad, 155 jmschrei, 156 noelcmn, 157 noelcmn, 158 rwfarnell, 159 ramseybuckeye, 160 christophleipzig, 161 JeremytheIndian, 162 SpecialK, 163 emetcalf, 164 emetcalf, 165 stevebrot, 166 rparmar, 167 Mattt, 168 JeffJS, 169 jmschrei, 170 fotaki, 171 xs400, 172 TOUGEFC, 173 TOUGEFC, 174 Warped, 175 MaryAD, 176 Davidw0815, 177 baro-nite, 178 baro-nite, 179 pentaximus, 180 lukulele, 181 lukulele, 182 rob 1234, 183 lukulele, 184 lukulele, 185 pentaximus, 186 ramseybuckeye, 187 ramseybuckeye, 188 StDevious, 189 Free Soul, 190 Clou, 191 brvnara, 192 pentaximus, 193 Noelcmn, 194 Noelcmn 195 GmcarsMAN, 196 jmschreii,197 wolfiegirl, 198 xjjohnno, 199 Arn , 200 Peter Zack, 201 bluestringer, 202 cif, 203 Rollsup, 204 noelcm, 205 Davidw0815, 206 Davidw0815, 207 cif, 208 ramseybuckeye, 209 paulh, 210 Oldschool, 211 SpecialK, 212 mecrox, 213 pentaximus, 215 bramela, 216 jmschrei, 217 Exandr, 218 Noelcmn, 219 Noelcmn, 220 sergiu, 221 sergiu, 222 sergiu, 223 sergiu, 224 sergiu, 225 sergiu, 226 sergiu, 227 sergiu, 228 Davidw08, 229 reeftool, 230 reeftool, 231 cif, 232 mecrox, 233 mecrox, 234 glennbp, 235 glennbp, 236 pentaximus, 237 pentaximus, 238 pentaximus,239 Paul, 240 Nick Nero, 241 Arnold, 242 Arnold, 243 Arnold, 244 Arnold, 245 Nick Nero, 246 ramseybuckeye, 247 ramseybuckeye, 248 Douge, 249 Douge 250 Douge, 251 Dr Orloff, 252 lukulele, 253 lukulele, 254 nosliwmit, 255 nosliwmit, 256 nosliwmit, 257 casil403, 258 casil403, 259 Davidw0815, 260 Davidw0815, 261 ruggiex, 262 ruggiex, 263 mecrox, 264 pentaximus, 265 pentaximus, 266 SpecialK, 267 SpecialK, 268 filoxophy, 269 mecrox, 270 mecrox, 271 mecrox, 272 Paleo Pete, 273 Paleo Pete, 274 geomez, 275 geomez, 276 geomez, 277 mecrox, 278 mecrox, 279 mecrox, 280 Noelcmn, 281 Noelcmn, 282 Noelcmn, 283 Noelcmn, 284 Noelcmn, 285Alkazalsir, 286 StephenHampshire, 287 StephenHampshire, 288 wolfiegirl, 289 Bucfan1234, 290 nosliwmit, 291 wolfiegirl, 292 wolfegirl, 293 ramseybuckeye, 294 ramseybuckeye, 295 josh-fuggle, 296 josh-fuggle

Hi all,

Apologies for not being proactive and finding someone else to post this, but I have had a very busy week programming.

I did get out to take a few photos though. Here they are:

I particularly like this one. Not because it is technically brilliant, because it isn't, but because it tells a story that I don't need to explain.

Yachts lined up at the jetty after the Sydney to Hobart.

I have been participating in the Singles in January project, so here's one from every day so far in no particular order.
Visited Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens, and on my way out, came across a guy creating huge bubbles, which the childred delighted to burst. Here's one showinig a lid reaching for one- upped the saturation to bring out the colors.

Can't wait for the Avocados to ripen.

Another radical Graffiti close to where I live.

Joshua, thanks for hosting. Just one question (and sorry for the nitpicking): As there is usually one week of overlap to allow for unprocessed pictures of the previous week, wouldn't it be 29th December 2013 to 12th January 2014?

Now the pictures.

It was a nice day today, there was an impressive sky:

Brutal below zero temperatures and motorcycles may not seem to be a good mix but these guys live for ice racing. Yesterday was the first race of the season which will run into mid Feb.
On the Great Sacandaga Reservoir, Northville, NY.

The first shot I used a DA 40 Limited and all others were with a Manual K300/4. Why a manual lens? After the first lap in a tight race, the AF is next to useless.

Thanks for hosting again Josh!

Love the bokeh in that glove shot!

@Noel - that first one is awesome. Such rich colours in the bubble!
@Clou - really like the mirror shot. Clever!
@reeftool - really like that second last one. nice action shots! brrr for the snow though!

Ok wolfiepup fans, boy have I got a bonanza for you!

Am on the 50mm for Singles In this month and I think I've discovered a magical lens.

caught in mid baby talk sentence, wolfieboy reckons she looks like alfred hitchcock here..

blowing a bubble

i'm really bummed that I couldn't spin the focus ring fast enough for this one. This lens has a super long throw. Despite the blurriness the pose and expression on her face means I have to share

A touch unsharp, again, user slowness, but it was the only shot I could get of her with this in the background. I really wanted another go, but all she wanted to do was crawl around.

You're right @Clou. I did notice it after I posted, but couldn't find the control to edit the title. Not sure if you can edit it or not..

Josh, You should be able to edit it- click on the edit message window, and then on the dates you want to change. Only you can do that as the original poster- the rest of us cannot!

This past weekend I visited Point Arena in California for three days. I took my K-3, K-7, and 6X7 MLU. Here's the first photo I've edited, taken with my K-7 and Samyang 18-28 lens.

Stephenson's Rocket reincarnated!

Triumph decided, seeing as they have made the biggest bad assed motorbike in the world at 2300cc,they might as well name it after Stephenson's famous Rocket Steam Train.
Thank's to Pavpen's shot of a bike he entered into the Critique section this week, I decided to get my A into G & photograph my own beast.
Shot with a Pentax K10D & Pentax 28mm ,f2.8 on 400 iso at f 5.6 & shutter speed of 125.

Hope this does justice to the original Rocket!

Some stunners coming in here:
Clou-Wow, those are super, especially the mythological ones- that last one (Klabauf 1) has the most amazing details.
Reeftool, Love it. Though I don't personally like motorbikes,(been in the medical business for years, supplying equipment to the disabled, and we learned that there was one amputation a day due to motorbike accidents alone) I like these, even if can only ride vicariously via cyber space, that last one is to die for!
And I do love BONANZA's Wolfiegirl, especially this kind. mmmm, she is adorable and cute. Wolfieboy is right in singling out that one, but I'm not sure about the hitchcock angle. That pout is too wonderful, my favorite of all the ones of wolfiepup. And that last one mmmm. Wonderful and gratifying!
Tess, as usual wonderful stuff from you, but that bird-WOWWOWOWOW. It is delightful. Did you see/not see that little white spot at the tip of the beak?
Wow David, you had me worried there- first the moon was on one place when I looked, and when I looked again, it was in another place, so had to brush the contact lenses to make sure i was'nt seeing things. It wonderful, and i've already watched it a few times! Is that a car passing by?
Asama-Don't know anything about the Rocket, but that sure is a mean looking machine.

Thank you, Noel. That's a fishing ship heading back to Bodega Bay, I believe. This is the moon setting over the Pacific Ocean here. I took the shot from the Lighthouse property facing south-southwest.

Josh, thanks for hosting again. That first pic is great. It's worth a thousand words to say the least.
Noel, Love the soap bubble and it's really nice to see some green. Things are kind of white around here lately.
Clou, The reflection is a great shot. I usually end up getting myself or the camera in shots like that. Great angle. Is this a national festival? That second set is interesting to say the least. Would love to know the story behind this.
Richard, looks like you might have gotten your picture taken at the same time. Looks like 292 and the guy behind 24 have helmet cams on. Be interesting to see the footage from that race. Ice racing, who'd a thunk it.
Wolfie, the wolf-pup is growing like a weed. I agree with the Wolf. Definitely Alfred Hitchcock.
Tess, looks like ya'll are in the same boat we are. Some great shots there. I think grandma had something like that first one hanging over the fireplace in their sitting room. What a work of art! And the bluejay against the snow!
K David, pretty impressive moon set. Was interesting to see the camera react to the changes in the "warmth" of the moon as it progressed.
Asama, The Rocket III is most certainly the Beast! And it photographs well too. (Love the selfie in the third shot).

Ok, now to mine, we are experiencing some of the fury of winter here. We have had record breaking cold at15 below Fahrenheit (25 below Celsius) with a wind chill factor of 42 below. We got 16 inches of snow in 24 hours which, in this area, is unheard of. So, without the ability to get out and about, I had to shoot a couple out the front door. Actually thought they worked better in B/W which I hardly ever mess with. But here they are.
