#270: Unholy Interiors - WINNER
Posted By: sealonsf, 01-08-2014, 10:30 AM

Wow. All of these photos were good. Really enjoyed seeing them.

A few comments:

K David - Love the composition. Your eye is drawn toward the central starburst of the ceiling which ties the photo elements together.

jmschrei - I'm a huge fan of mass transit photos. I like how you've kept the lighting even throughout so you can see all of the elements and I love how the yellow really pops.

Tamia - All kinds of emotions come up when you view this photo so I'd say that makes it a very successful shot. The chalkboards really give me the willies.

SpecialK - Another photo that really tells a story. The brightness of the colors are in sharp contrast to the desolation. Well spotted.

NaClH2O - Another melancholy shot. I can hear the faint sounds of the crowds that were there.

atupdate - Ah Sweeney! About as unholy as you can get and the photo really captures the mood.

charliezap - Full on creepy. Wax museums are creepy enough without these characters - but thanks for the tour.

mde1970 - Great photo and captures the theme very well. The window looks like it could be in a church, which is an interesting contrast to the abandoned look of the room, and the lighting of the photo is wonderful.

fotogaffer - Another wonderful composition and I love how the eye is drawn toward the people gambling.

daacon - Eerie. Love the details and could look at this photo for a long time.

Jools - Love the grittiness of this photo and the shoe in the corner adds a nice touch. I can almost smell the stale beer.

tessfully - Wonderfully atmospheric photo. Another that I want to spend time looking at every detail.

noelcmn - At first glance, this does seem to be outside so thanks for the explanation. A good photo of a rather not so good piece of art.

scratchpaddy - Full on creepy with this one. I'm not sure what I would think it was if you didn't explain it. But a very well shot photo and it has a feel of 1950s space age movies to me.

ramseybuckeye - The "F You" next to the "Safety Bulletin" pretty much sums up this photo. Looks like a scene from a slasher movie and not a place I would like to linger - definitely fits the unholy theme.

Thanks everyone for playing along... they were all really good but one stood out for me. Fits the theme and is a great photo... so the winner is

mde1970 - with the photo of the attic room in abandoned building.

Thanks for the great theme and the comments on all our entries, sealonsf, and congratulations to Mark on the well-deserved win. If I had been judge, I might have chosen yours, or K David's, or Jools', or... okay, I was really taken with a lot of them!

Looking forward to the next theme!

Congratulations Mde1970, that is a fine photo, great lighting, angles too are perfect, love the details too. Looks like there have been rats, pigeons and that red stain- creepy! Ok so its an arrow, but not at first glance.
Thanks sealonsf for a interesting challenge. ANd for judging and commenting on each photo. Love the variety of interpretations here!
