Hello again folksThanks again to Caver for hosting the last challenge.I hope I can live up to the challenge of judging and selecting from the many excellent entries that I hope to see. The theme I have selected is simplicity. It is a theme that has always intrigued me from the very first days I picked up a camera, that is how to isolate a single object from the clutter of background. The simple shape, the leaf in the forest, the shaft of light in the gloom.A couple of examples to set the ball rolling. Both are local native grasses with a water background but of course the field is open to any interpretation. So get your minimalist juices working and keep it simple with lots of so called 'negative' space. The rules are below and entries will close on Thursday March 6th at 10:30 pm Australian Eastern Summer Time. GMT+11 hours.Good luck.

Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week. This challenge is Pentax-only.

Everyone is eligible to send in their best interpretation of the given theme, as long as the photo is taken with a Pentax/Samsung camera. Themes can be subject-oriented or technique-oriented.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

Ruby Beach, WA is well known for landscape photography, but this is a more intimate shot.

I'm betting you are going to have a tough row to hoe with this one.

A "Simple" guidance.

A simple picture that tells a story.--Rock Harbor in Orleans Ma.(Cape Cod) is a place where at low tide you can walk out for almost a mile. The channel is very narrow and every year they mark the channel with dead trees to guide the pleasure boats to the dock.It is quite unique. The trees have to be replaced because the ice and tides in the Winter take out the trees. This moody shot was taken on a cloudy vacation day.The first shot is my official pick for the challenge. The others show Rock Harbor with the sea reclaiming the flats.--charliezap

Snowmelt?

Here's my 'Simplicity' entry, snowmelt off a rooftop with backlight.
K-5, Sears 135mm f/2.8, 1/4000s, ISO 100, 0.3EV. F/stop unrecorded, probably wide-open. This is the Macro 'Glow' version of the Sears tele.

Most of the time I would rather come in 2nd place than win. It is way more fun to enter than to judge.
