Posted By: noelcmn, 03-03-2014, 03:19 AM

Welcome to PROJECT 52-6 for the year 2014.

PROJECT 52-6-4-Color -Black and White

Images for Project 52-6-4 are to be taken between the 3 March 2014 - 09 March 2014

Some previous winners.

Rules
1. Anyone and everyone interested in challenge is eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-6 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by non Pentax cameras are allowed.
Cameras may be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot, Medium Format, et cetera.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is
active to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from thread start date to listed closing date is acceptable.
9. The WINNER of each weekly challenge is the JUDGE of the next weeks Project 52-6.
10. The host (in this case noelcmn) may participate in the challenge, provided he/she is not the judge.
11. Closing date for the challenge is Sunday at midnight in your time zone. Late entries are accepted but subject to the acceptance by the current weeks
Judge.

Good luck everyone, and happy clicking!

Hi Folks

Last weeks Project 52 challenge raised an interesting dilemma, that of the closing time of this challenge. Usually it is midnight GMT, but I have opted to make it "Midnight in your time Zone". That seems easiest, and best, though it is somewhat unfair, as I am posting the challenge rather late again today, resulting in some time zones losing out on a few hours. Will try and get future challenges up timeously so that all time zones are fairly treated. It also requires a fair amount of honesty. As can be seen in the "rules" , (which I have amended) late entries are acceptable, subject to the current week's Judge allowing it.

Happy shooting!

The Bamboo Chair

Thought I would make an attempt at this challenge. Usually don't participate as I find them difficult but it sure is a way to try something different.
Anyway, here goes. Taken with the Sigma 18-250 and the K-5 then converted to B&W.

Thanks Tess. I am still learning the ins and outs of B&W so this was a good challenge for me.

Shadow

I wasn't planning on entering this contest but I was out in the glorious sunshine taking pics of my kids tobogganing and I just happened to see my shadow late in the day. The silouette of black against the brilliant white got me thinking of this contest. It is not a remarkable photo in anyway but I just converted it to BW and tweaked the black levels up a bit.

I'd just put a new focusing screen in my K5II (Canon "S" type) so i could finally manually focus some of my lenses. This was couple of wild Giraffes in our dining room!

This was captured during a cross-country skiing outing at City Forest in Midland, Michigan, with an SMC Pentax-F 1:4.5-56 35-80 mm on a Pentax K-x and processed with Silver Efex Pro 2. The shadows across the snowy trail prompted me to capture the image; and I like the view down the trail, which dips in the distance.
It is an attractive scene in color, too.

Old West?

Here's my B+W for the week, it's called 'Old West?'. K-5, DA 35mm f/2.4AL, f/6.3, 1/250s, ISO 80. Taken 3/5/2014.
I'm happy that the pedestrians came out blurry (motion) here, I was hoping for that. But on several other frames they're somewhat more 'frozen' and it lacks tension and movement. This is the only frame that works for me.
