Weekly Challenge 277- Something from Nothing
Posted By: casil403, 03-09-2014, 03:19 PM

This weeks challenge is Something from Nothing; that is.... turning the mundane and ordinary into something interesting and creative.
*This challenge will run until Sunday March 9 to Friday March 15 at midnight MDT.
Thanks to Bruce Clark for hosing last weeks Challenge Simplicity and for doing a stellar job judging and commenting!

Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week. This challenge is Pentax-only.

Everyone is eligible to send in their best interpretation of the given theme, as long as the photo is taken with a Pentax/Samsung camera. Themes can be subject-oriented or technique-oriented.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

Have fun and I look forward to seeing your entries!

Skeletal Leaf Just another rotting leaf... except it's not, really. The leaf's veins were in bas relief as softer tissues between them rotted away into the underlying log. I've never seen anything quite like it before or since.

Why Knot

A simple monkey-fist knot, a piece of glass, and playing around with off camera lighting.

Here's the reflection of a sunset on a link of chain captured in macro, with a long exposure and with a manually triggered speedlight for highlighting more detail.

Palm Fronds

You have definitely got your work cut out for you with this one and it is only Monday.

This is a detail from a dying palm tree.

Something from Nothing in Two Ways

Here is my sample, which is something from nothing in a couple ways. The first way is about finding good macro subjects in the winter. There are fewer outdoor flowers, bugs, and other assorted things that typically find their way into macro photos. So, while looking for something to take a close up photo of, I managed to find this bur, which looked interesting in the afternoon light. This is doubly something from nothing, though, as the photo was taken with a fungus filled lens. Unfortunately, a lens I ordered online was in pretty bad shape. I decided to take it out and see just how much the fungus interfered with pictures. 90% of the photos out of the lens were unusable, but this one turned out rather well. So, here is my submission for getting something from nothing.
