POTW # 306 covering weeks 10 March - 23 March 2014

Welcome to another round of Picture of the Week. This is edition #306 covers 10 March - 23 March 2014
POTW is a great spot to show off any shots you take in the upcoming week, or last week that you haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) 6 or less images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big.
3) Any Pentax or Samsung camera, film or digital.

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

---------- Post added 03-17-14 at 03:31 AM ----------

Oh dear, me again! Sorry about that, will definitely try and get a new host for next week. If any of you are willing to take on that duty, please PM me.
Starting with a few again.
This one for the Single in March and really an emergency shot, taken late at night, after all the ministerial duties have been done. Just some condensation on the lid of a Casserole dish I used for Pasta for lunch.

Have a great week everyone.

Some more vacation photos.
I always bring my DA 10-17 along and it got a lot of use this trip.
A little fun under the pier.

Getting up close to the ferris wheel.

Still stuck inside with a bad cold so I've been playing around with still life. Taken in diffused natural light.

I quite agree there Tom-Impressive POTW this week. Thanks everyone for posting, and happy to say there will be a new host for the next POTW.
Starting with Jeff413- What an impressive sunset! Beautiful Pano! And you may be having fun with you K5IIs- It's making some of us green with envy. Nice composition on the pony!
Clou-my, your pics are always so super sharp. And clean. Never went on the Munich underground when I was there a few years ago-now I am mad with myself That first one wins it for me-just because of the that guy there! Love all the triangular patterns. And the color in the second batch is too wonderful. 3 Cheers for the Germans for being so colorful!
Tom, so glad you have some time these days. That title for that young lady seems quite appropriate- she looks surly! Another impressive sunset too, and nice neons!
Serpiente-Lovely stuff- I am trying to ID that snake- some kind of viper? I see you are from Netherlands-Then it must be the European Viper. Blue frogs? Very nice capture that one- Like the eye contact. Not exactly a smiling look, but then again-invasion of privacy?
Reeftool-Your shots certainly show you appreciation of the weather. I like the guy with his birds best. Duffy's had me in stiches- I read an article about a pub that had that sign (free beer tomorrow) about some guy that came back every day for his free beer, only to be told the sign says tomorrow. Eventually he got the joke. Anyway-the 2nd set is even more awesome than the first-WOW-that under the pier shot is plain wonderful!
SpecialK-nice candid shots- but I like the faces of Freedom- tells a story-that 3rd one is rather poignant.
Weevil-Super set from you-the eye contact with that raptor is to die for! What is it, initially thought it was a gull? Like that last bird shot!
Papa Lazarou- Wow, you have captured the English countryside so very well. Solid crisp lines-and we are becoming very familiar with your photogenic kids! Is that the Mrs? Love that last B/W one-Maybe just me, but it seems to have a added dimension-3D maybe? Tis a beaut!
Mecrox, another as usual set of stunner from you. My immediate thought when I saw that guy on the Bicycle- JRR Tolkien is still around Just love the shadows in two of your pics.
Lukulele-lovely bird shots and loads of action and interest in the Taiko Club. Lovely moments captured!
Paleo Pete- Not a sucker but a sucker deluxe Not, just had little time to get round to sending out PM's. Love you shots, solidly good stuff as usual from you.
Hope it is going better with that back- sounds horrible. And hope you find that Red Shouldered Hawk. That lizard is sooo nice! Stop resisting-get some more going!
Derelict- What an interesting series-unusual perspectives, the Ferrari is awesome!
brunogeri-Lovey and lovely -thats for the first and second batch. That star burst is cool! reminds me of a Christmas tree. Bubbles are my favorite but never get anything as super as this!
wtlwdwgn-Lovely-Hope you are better soon, and be posting some more shots on POTW. Lovely shot-I struggle with lighting when it comes to taking shots of these smaller sculptures. Good control there!
Wolfiegirl-No record attempts here-Sucker Big time . Well now, what can I say about the madam cutie pie. Wonderful series-the best stage of life when it comes to kids-precious memories in abundance. To be cherished. That last one- She is having fun hey!
Checking...jono-mmmm- breathing in those shots. I just love snow pics-and these are super!

Time for some more folks!

I've been away from these threads because I've been using my NEX-6 quite heavily, and only Pentax photos are welcome here. I actually strongly considered selling my K30/18-135 combo, but I can't get over just how perfect it feels in the hand... so much more than the (slightly too small, IMO) NEX camera. Maybe the a7 will fit a little better? I have acquired a fairly decent sized collection of K/M lenses, and it's frustrating how difficult they are to use on the K30, compared to the smaller NEX. Anyway, I decided against selling the K30 for now, and ordered an ee-S focus screen to hopefully help some of the MF frustrations I've been having. I'd also like to re-map some of the controls on the K30 when I've got an MF lens on, but that's another story.

Anyway, here's a couple from this week... easing back into DSLR mode.

Wesley again, using a K200/2.5 and 1.4x-S TC, handheld. I wasn't expecting much, but it turned out quite well.

Also...

Kansas City, MO, as seen from our right-next-to-our-house trail. Taken with M135/3.5.

noel - Thanks. Looks like I'll be getting more lizards in the near future, I'm seeing them almost daily now. And butterflies, bees, a damselfly today, flowers everywhere, Chickadees just took over the nesting box I built for them, Bluebirds should be doing the same soon, noting on the nesting shelves yet but it's early...and I found the Hawks' nest, just have to get over there in decent light and watch for a while.

jcdoss - You have two User profiles on the K30, set one up for manual lenses and go for it. (U1 and U2 on the wheel) I'm thinking about doing the same but for macro shots. Then you just switch to U1 or 2, set the focal length, and you're set.

That's Ann - my mate's wife. Sian was away when I took the walk around Stowe.

Glad you like the mono shot of Rob - a bit of extra contrast for added pop. Used the '77 Limited - perhaps that's why?

Thanks for the advice. The issue I'm having is due to the crippled mount more than anything else. The NEX is much friendlier to use on the front end, even though the K30 handles better, but I like the output of K30 RAW files a lot better. And using the DSLR is just so much more natural, especially with larger lenses. Maybe I can get out tonight for a while and shoot.... Wesley needs a walk.
