Weekly Challenge 278- Winter Loses to Spring
Posted By: OrangeKx, 03-17-2014, 05:51 PM

This weeks challenge is Winter Loses to Spring. Show signs of Spring as Winter tries to hold on.
*This challenge will run until Sunday March 23 at midnight PDT.
Thank you casil403 for hosing last weeks Challenge Something from Nothing.

Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week. This challenge is Pentax-only.

Everyone is eligible to send in their best interpretation of the given theme, as long as the photo is taken with a Pentax/Samsung camera. Themes can be subject-oriented or technique-oriented.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

Have fun and I look forward to seeing your entries!

Late Punch?

Hi Kyle, congratulations on last weeks' contest, a worthy winner!
I'll kick this one off with a slightly different entry; I figured shots of flowers bravely sticking up out of the snow would be classic, but how about if nature took a last swing? And scored a knockdown?
It's called 'Late Punch?', K-5, DA 18-55WR, f/5.6, 1/180s, on-board fill flash. ISO 400.
Good luck judging, that's the hard part!
Ron

I am out of this one - I live where monsoonal wet season is giving way to the eight months of dry season...
Have fun everyone :-)

Our first major snow was in late January. This shot was taken a day or two later as the snow was melting off.

I will hopefully have something to post before this challenge is over. This morning was below 0F again and several feet of snow still cover the landscape. I saw no open water on the Hudson today. The weekend has some mixed rain/snow in the forecast. Not really spring but the closest we have come yet. I have a lot of shots of lasts weeks vacation but I think that's cheating.

Early April, which in the Adirondacks marks the transition to spring from a very long winter. This female Canada goose is roosting eggs on a nest that's submerged in an extraordinarily high snowmelt. And then it snowed. But the next day it all melted.

Well, we don't get snow here in the winter. However, when spring arrives we get rain and rain leads to crazy mushrooms in the yard.

The slow melting process - the water escapes from winter captivity.

Rule #8, pics can be from any time frame. Not cheating. Just lots of fun plus makes me, at least, go through some of my old shots that I have forgotten about.
