Weekly challenge #55: Barriers
Posted By: rparmar, 04-21-2008, 02:13 AM

Welcome to the Weekly Challenge #55: Barriers

Things that come between people, which obscure or divide, which obstruct or bound. And perhaps which paradoxically show how we are all connected.

I will do my best to choose the winners based on my own rather subjective interpretations. I am working on a photo exhibition on this theme and it would be great to see what the creative group here can come up with. Best of luck!

Please submit entries until 9pm EST on Sunday 27 April 2008.

The rules are as always:

The rules:
1. Post ONE photo (max 800x800) as a response to THIS post.
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme. It can be colour or B&W, your choice.
3. You can offer as much or as little additional information as you wish, but I'd be interested to know the location/event/whatever being depicted.
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and chose 1 of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. The challenge runs for 7 days plus a day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera will do or a Samsung DSLR.

"Keep Out"

Bariers.

As I sorted through my photos looking for examples of bariers, this one really stood out for me. This photo is part of a serries of bridges that I am working on. It is also part of a style excercise that I have been practicing.

But the reason I selected it for the bariers challenge, is that to me, there are three bariers shown. First there is the literal barier of the chain link fence with the barbed wire. Second, there is the social/economic barier symbolized in the graffiti. And finally there is the Fraser River. It is the barier that is not shown in the photo, but it is why the bridge is there.

And the topper to the topic of bariers: Earlier that day I was busted (asked to leave actually, but busted sounds hard core) for trespassing while photographing a train bridge. Something about being on CP rail land...

The greatest barrier of all time? Well perhaps of a physical nature.
Pentax *ist DS & Pentax 18-55. (please note I will be away for 3 weeks).
Cheers
Grant (aka GWP)

Barriers

Two barriers, a physical and a metaphysical.

Not a contender artistically speaking, but an interesting barrier. Used Gimp for the first time and found it as a steep learning curve as a die-hard Photoshop user. Converted to B/W only with contrast.

It was my first time out with my brand new old 28-70 2.8.

An old K1000 shot. Something I liked about the theme and this one - both portage and people. Ken.

Great shots all! Wow...

Here's my humble entry. On the macro level... the barrier between water and oil, made visible by light...

My entry for this week. As with many barriers, there is a way around.

Only 4 hours remaining! Share your barriers with us!

The close is 2am my time, so unless I am restless I will wait until tomorow before writing up the results.

Double barrier...

Not sure how useful the rusted lock is now, but at one time it was probably 'quite a barrier!', now locked onto another barrier - the all to familiar chain link fence!

Lots of interesting pictures this week, another difficult one to judge!
