Welcome to another round of Picture of the Week. This is edition, #310, covers 07 April - 21 April 2014 . POTW is a great spot to show off any shots you take in the upcoming week, or last week that you haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) 6 or less images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big.
3) Any Pentax or Samsung camera, film or digital.

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

Beautiful old church there mecrox. How old is "old"? Out here where I live an old church is maybe 100 or 110 years old...

And probably a Church of England too, and a Low church as distinct from a high church??? Classic Protestant church, with the pulpit high and in one of the corners. i'd guess a few hundred years old.

Thanks for taking on hosting duties again Mecrox, just had a look through your portfolio of churches on Flickr. Some really good stuff!
While we are on old churches, this one perhaps not so old, but certainly derelict.

Was up early yesterday for ministerial duties, and had a quick excursion outside to see what the dawn was presenting

In the opposite direction was also some fantastic clouds-but building and trees spoiled what would have been a lovely pano. Instead I opted to use the 50-200mm lens which was on the camera to zoom in on only a part of that lovely sky.

And on Saturday, saw this

And this

So as you can gather, I am somewhat in the clouds- I'm off for a much needed holiday at the end of the week.

This one likely started as a simple stone building around 800 years ago, quite likely with a thatched roof, which was then extended and embellished, mainly over the next three or four centuries or so. But it's also possible that an earlier, wooden church stood there first. The remains of a Roman temple have been found nearby, so who knows how far back the settlement goes. A village a couple of miles away with a Roman road passing through it has a church reputedly built over a shrine to a Dark Age saint. The only thing which survives of him is his name - Saint Domnanuerdh, if he really existed. That's back in Anglo-Saxon times. The small details are often more interesting - the faint remains of medieval wall paintings, lovely carved medieval woodwork or stained glass, etc. Anyway, "very old" i guess.

Nice sunset at the beach, watched some dolphins with their two young following close behind. Hard to tell where and when they would surface, so not many keepers.

Things are melting out around here. The valleys are pretty clear of snow and the water is rising but there's still a while lot of snow left up high.

My son and I climbed up to some of that snow for a ski tour yesterday. Fun outing but we had some scary thundersnow and conditions weren't ideal. We will try again on a clearer day when the sun can soften things up a bit more.

We were in the Georgia mountains last week for a quick get away. Here is a little shot on the way there. A telephoto landscape with the long end of the 18-135 WR.

I'll try to post some from Blood Mountain later this week.

Well, there’ll be no eclipse for me tonight. It’s raining here. Any of you guys having better weather for eclipse shots tonight?

Superb colours, @noelcmn! And very dramatic, particularly the last shot. I hope you have a very good holiday.

How great to see dolphins against a sunset, @ChatMechant. It would be a real rarity for me, though we saw some in Madeira in February.

That's a great set, @mattb123 with lovely colours and very atmospheric. A world away from where I am which is on the lowlands and all is turning sunny and green already, as in @pentaximus's capture. Lush grass, blue skies.

Those are amazing shots, @Beardedclam. The first is a knockout and the scale of the last two with those tiny human figures is very powerful. I really like your BW which strips things down to the action. A bit of a Wow set all round.

Some way cool shots showing up so far this week. Noel, the last 2 sunsets are excellent. Clam, that last mountain scene is one to brag about.

A couple from the past day or two.

Overcast, dingy bad lit morning yesterday preceding a rainy cold snap, and of course a Carolina Wren was still out perched on a branch and singing. Nothing slows these guys down...the only bird I heard all morning...

Iris in my mother's flower bed started blooming 3 or 4 days ago, I had to go grab the nifty 50.. (K50 f 1.4) Should have pulled the wildflower/weed behind it though...

Moon last night just as the earth's shadow covered it completely, just a sliver of light still showing. Only decent shot I was able to get, my eyes were blurry from watching a Red Skelton DVD and I couldn't see to focus well. Makinon 135mm lens at f5.6, ISO200, 1 second exposure.

@mattb123 - We skied car to car, and were able to get just over 8,000' of continuous skiing with only a hundred feet of pole skating through some flats.

@mecrox - Thanks a ton. The sensor on the k3 compared to my old k7 is night and day. The dynamic range it is able to pick up, and the difference in not only definition but color rendition is unreal.

Thanks Mecrox and Paleo Pete for you kind comments. A few from today-Woke up early (as I usually do) and noticed it was very misty, put on some decent clothes and out onto the street with the Camera-not to be missed opportuniy. Never mind that I'm enhancing the reputation of the mad pastor from Newclare (where I live)
