POTW #313 covering weeks 28 April - 11 May 2014
Posted By: Papa Lazarou, 05-06-2014, 09:56 AM

Welcome to another round of Picture of the Week. This is edition, #313, covers 28 April - 11 May 2014 . POTW is a great spot to show off any shots you take in the upcoming week, or last week that you haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

Some rules:
1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.
2) 6 or less images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big.
3) Any Pentax or Samsung camera, film or digital.

The current host will invite a new host via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact bluestringer, Moderator via PM.

OK another POTW starts.
It was a Star Wars (May the Fourth be with you) event at LEGOLAND, so we popped along yesterday.

Will post some more up later.
Looking forward to seeing your pics. If they're anything like last week we're in for a treat!

Many thanks for hosting again, Papa Lazarou. We've been out and about over the past few days: a village orchard full of apple blossom, a water garden with rhododendrons and azaleas, bluebells in a churchyard, an ornate drinking fountain in a local town with a slightly sinister bird which turned up just before I pressed the shutter, and a visit to a blonde bombshell taking an afternoon nap just down the road ( a rare breed called an Oxford Sandy and Black).

The weather is slowly improving. We got in our first long motorcycle run of the season on Saturday and managed to dodge the raindrops most of the day. This is in Thacher Park, in the Helderburgs south of Albany, NY.

Both shot with the K5 and Sigma 17-70c.

Thanks for hosting again Papa, and thanks for the compliments last week.

Out with the K50mm f1.4 this morning, some Indian Blankets just started blooming a few days ago and I had to get a shot or three...

Earlier it was the Vivitar 200mm for some birds...

This first year Orchard Oriole has been a bit elusive but got out in the open for a minute or two this morning. Later he will have bronze belly and black head and wings.

Usually it's more like this (not an Orchard Oriole, but similar location.) Don't know exactly what bird it is though. Could be female Orchard Oriole but I'm not sure.

Summer Tanager perched on the clothesline yesterday afternoon

Then there was this Mockingbird yesterday morning...it would chirp for a couple of minutes then do a flying somersault and land back in the same place. I've seen them do this a lot, another did the same in my yard an hour later. Both kept chirping the whole time...and landed back in the same spot every time. I watched and took pictures for a half hour trying to get a couple of decent ones. Usually more motion blur than anything else, and when I managed to outwit the motion blur I missed the focus...dammit...

I'll follow Tim with Once Upon a Mattress, the show beginning tonight at the middle school I retired from last year. Our Music teacher is retiring next month and many hands came on board to send her final presentation off in style. During the dress rehearsal yesterday I concentrated more on the individual performers and the costumes. The music teacher's brother is a retired drama professor and master tailor who made all the costumes. K-01/F35-70, a jewel for stage work along with F50/1.7 and K-5 Sigma 50-150.

Not many middle school productions get costumes this good. I expect the student's expectations will be elevated when they get to the high school productions.

Very nice cast shots.

Thanks for hosting Papa Lazarou!

I love the first stormtrooper shot. Also like the black and white of the little boy on the slide. Nice one!

Mattb123 - that first one is an absolute stunner!

atupdate - The last one of the three with the black background looks like it should be in the programme catalogue.

Have been busy with Life, but wanted to post these, taken last week, of wolfiepup out and about having adventures in Sydney. Processed on late Sunday night, and didn't see the new thread up. Only managed to get back online tonight, so I'm a bit late to the party, but hey, least I'm here!

Whoa, what are those cool things?!

I like the B&W from the Q. It makes wolfiepup look like a little grown-up. The colored shots are just adorable. Win-Win.

Thanks, Tim

Yes she's a little grown up these days. No more baby chubby cheeks Sad but shes completely adorable at the moment. Lots of affection, smiles, giggles and cuddles and much more interactive. Although I'd prefer she'd be less picky about food....

Thanks for hosting Papa, and thatks to all for sharing some beautiful photos!

For the last 6 weeks or so work has kept me from life, some work events have passed so hopefully I'll rejoin the living. Yesterday I went straight from work to the woods and it was really nice, warm, not muddy, and a nice breeze to keep the mosquitoes away. The woods was alive with birds, most were too high up in the canopy to get decent photos. But it was great just to be there.
Hairy Woodpecker:

Squirrel with a Snack:

A lone wildflower by a tree:

These wildflowers were really blowing in the wind, I wanted to show a little motion, but I was handholding 300mm so it was a bit of a compromise:

A farmer was planting near the woods:
