Project 52-6-17-ARCHITECTURE-OLD BUILDINGS
Posted By: noelcmn, 06-08-2014, 01:35 PM

Welcome to PROJECT 52-6 for the year 2014.

PROJECT 52-6-17-Architecture-Old building/s

Images for Project 52-6-17 are to be taken between the 9th June 2014 and 15th June 2014.

There are no past winners as this is a new theme, but do have a look here:
Photographing Buildings
A Guide to Architectural Photography | Photography Mad

Architecture is a firm favorite with Project 52. I am adding a few themes, and the more regular ones will make an appearance over the next couple of weeks. We start with old buildings. Lets see what everyone comes up with. If possible, give an indication of the age of the building. I am aware that some may not live in a place where old buildings are easy to find, in which case post an image of the oldest building you are able to find.

Rules
1. Anyone and everyone interested in the challenge is eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-6 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by non Pentax cameras are allowed.
Cameras may be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot, Medium Format, et cetera.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is
active to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from thread start date to listed closing date is acceptable. You may request to submit a photo outside of the time frame, but its acceptance is dependent o the judge of the week. Please try and keep to within a day or two (either way) of the week. This is to make allowances for those that would like to participate, but for one or other reason, are not able to do so during the time given for the challenge, such as illness, weather, travelling etc.
9. The WINNER of each weekly challenge is the JUDGE of the next week's Project 52-6.
10. The Facilitator (in this case noelcmn) may participate in the challenge, provided he/she is not the judge.
11. Closing date for the challenge is Sunday at midnight in your time zone. Late entries are accepted but subject to the acceptance by the current weeks
Judge.

Good luck everyone, and happy clicking!

Yes Daniel, and don't worry about the emptiness. Usual with this challenge, as most entries will come in by the weekend. The idea is that it is a weekly challenge, and the week is given to hunt and find an image for the challenge. And welcome as a new member to Pentax Forums, and to the Project 52 Challenge in particular. Set the bar for us .

This is an old hospital (McPherson Eye and Ear Hospital of Durham, NC) under demolition. This hospital was constructed in 1926. While this may not be exceptionally old, it is as old as it is ever going to be as a hospital. Apparently, however, this much of the façade may become part of the hotel that is being built on this site

Stonework This building dates probably to the early- mid-19th Century, though these treads were probably turned over much later. The rock going into making this structure is far older and before lithified would have been home to many a marine worm, arachnid, or crustacean .

Simple Stone:
I photographed this 150ish year old building in Hermannsberg while travelling through the NT, Australia. It was part of the Lutheran mission set up several hundred kilometers from Alice Springs, and was at one stage even bigger. It served as a major crossroad between South Australia, Darwin and Queensland, producing camel hide leather products and hiring the local population. The town is now predominantly an aboriginal community and seemed a little different from others that I saw along the way. The Aranda people, under the influence of the town's European settlement, have left a subtle mix of generationally stretched cultures, hazily blended over the decades between its beginning until it's decline.

Colours and contrast are probably all screwy as I adjusted this on my laptop at the last minute.

One of the oldest churches in Johannesburg. Regrettably I could not manage a frontal view as there was too much distractions such as overhead wires, lamp posts and cars. So opted for this side view, complete with pedestrian.

I will include in the judging photos submitted as late as 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (U.S.) tonight to be fair to anyone else who would like to participate, as we do not know what time Mr.Tux's photo will be posted.

Thanks and sorry for keep you waiting
This is part of the Sultan Abdul Samad building, one of historical buildings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Based on Wikipedia:
It was designed by A.C. Norman and built in 1894-1897 to house several important government departments during the British administration.

The Williams Prayer Chapel on the Indiana Wesleyan University campus in Marion Indiana, USA. One of the most beautiful and peaceful places on campus.
