Welcome to PROJECT 52-6 for the year 2014.

PROJECT 52-6-18-Architecture-Modern
Images for Project 52-6-18 are to be taken between the 16th June 2014 and 22nd June 2014.

The winners from Project 52-3-2

Hopefully an easier theme for this week.

Rules
1. Anyone and everyone interested in the challenge is eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-6 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by non Pentax cameras are allowed.
Cameras may be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot, Medium Format, et cetera.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is
active to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from thread start date to listed closing date is acceptable. You may request to submit a photo outside of the time frame, but its acceptance is dependent o the judge of the week. Please try and keep to within a day or two (either way) of the week. This is to make allowances for those that would like to participate, but for one or other reason, are not able to do so during the time given for the challenge, such as illness, weather, travelling etc.
9. The WINNER of each weekly challenge is the JUDGE of the next week's Project 52-6.
10. The Facilitator (in this case noelcmn) may participate in the challenge, provided he/she is not the judge.
11. Closing date for the challenge is Sunday at midnight in your time zone. Late entries are accepted but subject to the acceptance by the current weeks
Judge.

Good luck everyone, and happy clicking!

Ok, to start the thread
We were passing this bridge called Seri Saujana and was build back in 2003, I thought maybe I can take something for this weeks challenge, my first attempt didn't satisfy me, my place wasn't good, so I gave up, but after crossing the bridge I found the place to stand and shoot, so stopped again and well, I lifted up myself with camera over my car to get this.

Very beautiful bridge and photo, Mehrdad.

This building is the opposite of beautiful. It's about 20 years old, and in a soulless style so common to rural New York. Just a vinyl-sided basic box with few windows (none on this side) with no concession to eye-pleasing textures, colors, materials, or beauty.

Soulless Modern

Shot with a K200D, Sigma 10-20mm EX DC f4-5.6 lens, f/8, 1/500s. Chose this lens, and cropped to 16:9 format, to bring in the full width without too much sterile lawn foreground.

Who says shopping centres are boring?

Unfortunately I never had the chance to get that perfect shot. A rather sombre looking fellow, dressed in security garb came gliding down the escalators, silent as a ghost, with only distasteful news chewing in his mouth - I was not allowed to take photos here...

"what's a demoire in GIMP?"

I get the same thing here- and I have learned that it is best to rather ask first. Suspicious bunch of people at shopping malls!

Interesting theme. There are buildings that are modern in the sense that they are new. There are buildings that are not necessarily new but that have "modern" design elements (such as houses designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, or buildings designed to look like flying saucers). Quite a bit of the really interesting trends in our city involve creating welcoming inviting interiors out of renovated old buildings, including the renovation of old tobacco warehouses. I had a different building in mind but had to try a panoramic shot that I have not yet been able to get to align properly. So here's an example of the tremendous building boom we have taking place currently in the creation of apartment and office space in and near the downtown section of town. This is one of about 6 (I believe, although it could be a little less) such projects currently under construction. Taken with by K-x and my Sigma II 28-80 Macro f3.5-5.6 lens (my current walking around lens).

If it's not too late, I'd like to submit this photo as my official entry. I'd like to think of this building as a kind of 1950's modernist design. This building is at least 20 years old and was originally designed for a diner. It now hosts a bake shop/café. Still taken with K-x and Sigma 28=80mm f3.5-5.6 II Macro. This photo is a composite of 2 shots stitched with Hugin and a little help from Lightroom (to clone over an inconsistency).
