Weekly Challenge #289 - Used
Posted By: Arjay Bee, 06-24-2014, 01:00 AM

Thanks to Tess for the honour of last weeks win. This week's theme is building on Tess's theme: Used

There are items and possessions (including cameras, cars, shoes. pencils, clothing, furniture, plush toys, dog play things) that aren't old necessarily but they are well used and loved and I would like you to show me pictures of these used items and also if you care to, share some of the ways in which these objects are special to you.

A fan in the art classroom of the school where I work with a couple of generations of students adding their creativity to the motor housing.

Some flotsam washed up on the local beach. The un-natural pink nylon jarring as always with the sand grains and 'used' shells.

Embedded in the bitumen of the road and well flattened -this spoon marks the start and end of the weekly walk.

This challenge will run until Tuesday July 1st at 5PM EST (Australia). Slightly shortens the time from a week for others but will be travelling again later next week. More photo ops. Yaaaay.

Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Everyone is eligible to send in their best interpretation of the given theme, as long as the photo is taken with a Pentax/Samsung camera. Themes can be subject-oriented or technique-oriented.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

Have fun everyone.

@ Z-Jay and Cats Cradle - which of your images is your entry? Rule says one image each....

@ lukulele - Thanks for the luck... Isn't it great that judge can be as non objective, emotive and curmudgeonly as judge likes.
My entry should be the last one. The used and overused citymap.

I'm sorry, didn't know that. I'll blame old age. The cameras, I'll delete the other thread or, if I can't delete it, have the mod delete it. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

I just cannot resist old instruments whenever I see them. Their previous owners played sad songs on them, they were the centre of great party sessions, they spent a lot of time lying in a box in the cellar. An instrument has got character when it is been used. And it should be played especially when it is looking as beautiful as those old accordeons I found at a car boot sale.
It is my first entry, hope you like the picture.

You don't need to delete the whole post. You can edit your post and delete the pictures you want to remove.

Old Campaigner I've had this roomy wool-lined Orvis oiled cotton jacket for going on 30 years. Originally bought for fly-fishing and canoeing, then worn any time I needed a cozy jacket, rain or shine. Last fall I wore it on a November hike, and when I warmed up clearing a tree that had fallen across the trail, I tossed the jacket aside while finishing my task. Turning back to the jacket, it appeared to be waving at me, so I shot a photo of it. Even though it's torn, frayed, and faded, and now beyond repair, it remains a favorite and I guess I'll keep wearing it till it disintegrates.

Baggage?

Hello Arjay Bee,
My entry this week is a Domke bag, purchased new in the late 1980's for about $100, if memory serves.
First a primary bag, later replaced and unused, picked up again because it fits a DSLR and 4 lenses (or 3 and one flash) perfectly. Plus it's so old and battered I don't worry about the conditions, it's my 'roughest' bag out of five. Most are smaller, one is larger.
The backside is worn perfectly to my hip and the one-hand metal clips are still a joy to use. It's not W/R or fashionable and it doesn't sling too well.
But it's my favorite bag.
On this day it held a K-5 w/grip, DA 35mm + 50mm (used for this photo), Sigma Super-Wide 24mm and smc A 135mm, 4-pack of CPL's, lens-cleaning stuff, clicker remote. And two energy bars, blueberry, I believe.

Used but not forgotten

As a lad growing up we used to fish off this dock in the 60's.Many a boat would take people out for a moonlight cruise of the Saugus River and out into Boston Harbor. Now it's just a fond memory of a bygone era.--charliezap

Suspended in Frozen Carbonated H20

It was winter and the monochrome landscape was getting to me so I collected some "used up" dead ferns and leaves and "used" them in an attempt to create freezer art.

Funny, I've never seen that particular perspective, but being from the Boston area I knew it was Boston area before reading a thing.

I was exploring an overgrown estate today that was barred until a few days ago. Someone left this pair of shoes at the side of the driveway, presumably never to be used again.

I encountered these boots and pants last spring, clearly used and abandoned in the parking lot of a natural preserve. The harsh processing was intentional.
