Project 52, Week 1 - History
Posted By: DanLoc78, 05-14-2008, 08:45 AM

Rules:

1. Anyone and everyone who is interested in eligible

2. Make an attempt to effectively capture the theme of the week

3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme

4. some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color saturation) but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. let's try to keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves

5. there is one theme labeled black and white, but feel free to post black and white, sepia, etc. for any of the other themes

6. have fun, provide constructive and friendly criticism, and fire away

7. It is preferable if the picture you post was taken during the week in which the theme is active; however, any picture you would like to post is acceptable!

This week's theme...Wednesday, May 14 - Tuesday, May 20. That will give us some time during the week to come up with an idea, then use the weekend to capture it, then if you want you can touch it up a little and post it by Tuesday. You may post your pics as soon as you are ready during the above timeframe.

So B+W pictures could be posted here regardless when they are taken?

In response to the suggestion I tried my shot in B&W:
I just realised that rules state "your single photo" and I had two versions of the one photo. Opted for this one.
As I had said previously, this old abandoned house in the mountains exudes history in the sense that must have many stories to tell.
Its isolation and derelict condition is what attracted my attention.

Nice shot JC. The smoke gives a good atmosphere. Would have liked to see a bit higher angle to get some of the faces into view, however, thats easy for me to say. Not always possible.
Well done!

History replicated

This is a replica of the old town clock in Charlottetown. I couldn't find much info on it but I guess the old one just slowly fell apart. It's right on a busy traffic intersection with terrible backgrounds from most angles. The old city hall is in the background.

St. Mary Abotts

Here is my take on History...
Just few meters from my work is this beautiful gothic church. This was taken during my lunch with Sigma 10-20...

Renovation?

K20D with the wonderful DA 10-17. Turned into BW in light room. Tried to mimic my old style in the real darkroom.

Two elderly gentlemen watching elderly motorcycle in need of renovation.

The local motorcycle club was helping the organization "save the children" showing their bikes on the city square to attract people. The rest of the bikes was of course in much better shape, even if some was rather old. What this one was doing there I don't know.

What is he thinking? Is it his? Did he have one like that? Or is he like me just wondering what it is doing there. Did it get there on its own engine so to speak?
His friend got his own wheels with him!

Good Job everyone! I like the direction people are taking with the History theme.
Here is my pic. I snapped it Sat night at the Smith Civil War Memorial, Fairmount Park, Philadelphia.

Fisherman's Memorial

Although I did not take this photo this last week, I thought I would like to include it here.

This is the Fisherman's memorial in Steveston BC. In the center is a large net needle, surrounded by the names of the people and ships lost at sea.

Fishing was the comunities primary industry for many years and it is still an important part of the town.

To the left is a pilot boat returning to harbour. It is part of todays economy. It shuttles the river pilot to the cargo ships that arrive from China and Japan.
