Project 52, Week 1 - History
Posted By: DanLoc78, 05-14-2008, 08:45 AM

Rules:

1. Anyone and everyone who is interested in eligible

2. Make an attempt to effectively capture the theme of the week

3. Post your single picture in this thread, and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme

4. some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color saturation) but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. let's try to keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves

5. there is one theme labeled black and white, but feel free to post black and white, sepia, etc. for any of the other themes

6. have fun, provide constructive and friendly criticism, and fire away

7. It is preferable if the picture you post was taken during the week in which the theme is active; however, any picture you would like to post is acceptable!

This week's theme...Wednesday, May 14 - Tuesday, May 20. That will give us some time during the week to come up with an idea, then use the weekend to capture it, then if you want you can touch it up a little and post it by Tuesday. You may post your pics as soon as you are ready during the above timeframe.

I made it out to get a "fresh" shot yesterday. This is Cape Mears lighthouse. Here is some history behind it if you are interested.

Shot on Kodak Professional bw400cn, with ME-Super and a Super Takumar 28mm f3.5.

Greystone Hall - West Chester, PA

I drive by this estate occassionally on my way into West Chester from work. It's a beautiful place, and you can just sense the history when you see it.

I guess for judging purposes we'll do it like the POTW. Since I started this thread I will judge, coming up with one winner and two runners-up. Then the winner from this week will host the next week's theme, which is shadows, and will pick a winner and two runners-up.

It just seems much easier than doing a poll every single week.

It certainly looks like it is a well-kept estate even though boarded-up.

That is only a fraction of the grounds. I wanted to get a shot of the abandoned mill, but couldn't get a good angle without trespassing.

getting my feet wet in this topic...

I'm going to post up an image here as a way of getting involved with this project. I like the idea of trying a different theme every week.

This was taken behind some retail stores in Northhampton MA. It was for a shoe store called "The Bootery" that is no longer there. I was intrigued with the idea of what was left behind when the business was gone. I framed it as "ootery" mostly because I have an off-the-wall sense of humor

shot with the K100D, kit lens, very minor exposure correction, slightly desatured

History

This is an Iroquois Jet Turbine with afterburner that was designed for the Avro Arrow. This aircraft never did go into production due to "political" reasons, however it remains a part of Canadian history.

JC you are not buying I was a knight of the round table and took this picture many years ago? Or that I have a time machine?

No secret really. This is a display in West Edmonton Mall at the Silver City cinema. This stars are placed there as part of the black dome that is above the dragon to simulate night time flying. This dragon also use to breathe fire every 30 minutes on the hour, however they stopped doing that a few years ago. It was quite a spectacle. You can Google Fire breathing dragon west Edmonton Mall lots of hits. The video quality is not the best but here is one You Tube for ya

Buddhism was first founded in India around 500 B.C. by Buddha. It is the dominant religion in most of Asia (India, China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and Tibet). Today, there are about 300 million followers. The Buddhists faith rests in Buddha, his teachings (dharma), and the religious community.
