#306 - Grain
Posted By: lukulele, 11-19-2014, 10:09 AM

Hello and welcome to Weekly Challenge #306-Grain
Thanks to Tess for a magnificent challenge last week, superb entry critiques and asking me to step in to judge this week's challenge.

This week's challenge is GRAIN, in all of its multiple meanings, shapes, and shades. Show us your interpretations from all around the PF community.

The fine print:
Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

The Challenge will run until midnight next Wednesday, 26 Nov 2014, whichever time zone you are in.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

Tropical Starry Evening

Excellent topic and I love I have a very recent photo to participate. ISO was reasonable (200) but a 65s exposure produces some noise aka grain

I've posted this one before but the grain is critical to the intent of the post processing.

ah man, I just thought of grainy pictures! never thought of actual grain! Here is a photo I took when I first got the Pentax, just curious to see what it could do. Inside a dark aquarium, no flash or tripod allowed, ISO 6400 and badly underexposed.

I am usually not that happy about having grainy pictures, but I like it in this one from my trip to Quebec City

Alright maybe not THAT grainy, but this is the maximum amount of grain that I can tolerate....

I'm no friend of grain but in this case I think it goes fairly well with the snow coming down with one lonely walker on this stormy night in Saugus Ma. just 10 miles North of Boston Ma.--charliezap
