#311 Silhouette - Winners
Posted By: Cory Tarilton, 01-22-2015, 01:43 PM

@SpecialK - Nice tree silhouette, and beautiful mountains in the background

@atupdate - That water is incredibly glassy!

@tessfully - Great use of colored sky and dark exposure on the trees.

@ClinchShots - Cool subject and mood, but I tend to not like photos with so much PP that there are auras like the one in yours

@Leontian - Great entry for your first time with a dslr. Try to expose the snow so it is white, instead of grey. The cameras auto-metering does a terrible job with snow since it want to make the midpoint of the dynamic range grey.

@Whyteroom - The curves of a women always make for a beautiful silhouette. I'm located in Bellingham if you ever need help on a shoot like this one or any of the other on your site.

@sealonsf - Simple, powerful, and stunning. Candid? The people add a nice balance but I wish they were more drawn out and you could see their outline better

@Joris - beautiful capture, very dynamic scene that you did a great job capturing

@godavari - another beautiful tree

@luppenko - Stunning scene and a powerful story. How could you have composed the shot to need less words in that caption? So that it is more self explanatory and stands alone, rather than with text.

@charliezap - Incredible colors over the water

@Rollsup - The steam, the sun, the boat all serve to make a beautiful image

@scomatic - Interesing clouds and moon

@goodasgold - simple image that everyone can relate to

@madmathmind - good take on the theme, underwater silhouettes are often overlooked

@jheu - nice rolling water greyscale

@mangelito - powerfully simple, great job

@hattifnatt - a true silhouette, nice photo

@daniel miller - Not a super strong silhouetter but a very good picture nonetheless

@tamia - nice use of color and black

@isaact - good take on the theme and beautiful sunset

@Azergoth - where are you ski's? No use in climbing mountains other than to ski down!

@papa lazarou - beautiful kid

@apipis - looks like a good beach

@jpot2013 - Try to use less clarity or contrast, whichever is giving things the aura effect

@stevenhampshire - Is that in camera grain, or film? Strong Strong work

@wcs5253 - great sunset in a cool location

@clou - another great sunset silhouette

@noelcm - Cool lighting in that tower

@Knock - One can imagine a sundress...

@ramseyebuckeye - hay there's a horse

@dieterson - great sulhouetter but the flying birds add a bit too much of chaos in my mind

@zamke14 - I love sunsets like this one

@bill2849 - Cool flowers

@k david - great sunset and bird

@Rhynn - incredibly sharp and a beautiful view

Great work from everyone,

Notable mentions: luppenko, whytroom, rhynn

3rd - Rollsup
2nd - sealonsf
1st - stevenhampshire

Thank you Beardedclam for hosting the challenge and commenting on all the pictures. I hope we didn't steal too much of your skiing time ;-)

A bit late to the party but thanks for the win! The shot was taken at my local heritage railway, the chap featured is a WW2 "re-enactor" Smart Alec the Spiv
Taken against a steamed up coach window, with the K3, DA50 at f2, 1/80th second, ISO20000...hence the grain!

New challenge shortly!

PS another of Smart Alec

Congratulations Stephen, that is one fabulous shot, so much in that image, evoking a time gone by. That lit up cig makes the shot for me-a worthy winner. Thanks for sharting with us too you technique! A lesson to be learned there. Congrats too SealonsF and RollsUp and the HM's. Fabulous images in this challenge, thanks beardedclam, and for taking on the judging duties-that could not have been easy with so many entries.
