Weekly challenge #319 - Blurred / Unsharp
Posted By: Dieterson, 03-20-2015, 05:14 PM

What an honor to host my first Weekly Challenge

This week's theme is "blurred / unsharp". This means, that I am looking for photos in which blurring or unsharpness (is this an English word?) is in one way or another important for the picture. This can mean that the whole picture is unsharp, but it does not have to. There are many different ways to interpret this topic. The most important thing is to have fun, and that we see some nice and interesting pictures!

I am giving you four examples below
1. Christmas market - out of focus
2. Weir - long time exposure blurred the water
3. Winter night forest - heavy fog makes everything unsharp
4. Bird with colourful bokeh - colour blurring (a.k.a. chromatic aberration) turns dull brown-grey winter twigs into a colourful bokeh.

Be creative, and show us your interpretation of the topic!

The small print:
The contest will run until Friday March 27th 2015.

Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.
Everyone is eligible to send in their best interpretation of the given theme, as long as the photo is taken with a Pentax/Samsung camera. Themes can be subject-oriented or technique-oriented.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

Diving bird surfacing with catch. After several shot like this I realised I had too slow a shutter speed. After making the necessary adjustments, on the next dive the bird came up with nothing. However I still like the effect.

A shot that I will never be able to duplicate. The hummingbird feeder was in the shadows and I used my flash to fill in the dark areas. What I got was a strange looking shot with blurring and out of focus areas but with sharpness where it counted.Sometimes being lucky pays off.Picture was taken at 1/80 sec f/9 @ 200 ISO.--charliezap

This is an example of the old trick of moving the lens during a shot to achieve an impressionistic effect. Shot at f20, 1/4 sec. at ISO 800.

Nice images in here. I have taken a lot of shot where I go for a minimal or sometimes no sharp focus, especially close in. The unfocused can be more interesting at times in my view.

Took this at 24 Hours of Booty in Charlotte, NC. The event is a fund raiser for cancer research and education.

Eastern Red Wolf, taken in Algonquin Park. For some reason not considered endangered, but only 180 of them left from an animal that used to range from Florida to Texas and Ontario to Vermont.

I also have no problem with blurred lines, thanks to my apparently "too much lens for my camera lens" which I now know will never be crisp without being tethered:P Anyway, slightly blurry makes for kissable baby cheeks, n'est pas? F1.6 1/160 200iso. This was my first week with a DSLR.

Those are some pretty wild conclusions you've come up with....
I think you need a <sarcasm sign>, or a smiley.

This is a reflection (blurry) of the Radcliffe Camera, one of the old university buildings here, in a pavement (mostly in focus) covered with thawing ice and rain.
